Weapon Dream Meanings

Possessing a weapon denotes personal insecurity. You are not trusting yourself or your own strength to cope.

If the oneiric weapon is fired, it shows a marked tendency to solve problems aggressively. Although you have a lot of energy, you are using it for negative purposes. The dream is an invitation to stop considering life as a constant struggle. Arms also express anger, resentment, and conflict. When used against someone you know it means that you hold emotions such as anger or rancor. Perhaps you do not dare to speak frankly with that person. In case you do not know such individual, it may represent undesirable aspects of yourself: you are having internal problems that need to be resolved. Furthermore, swords, arrows, knives, pistols, and daggers are phallic symbols denoting male sexual aggression.

Dreaming of weapons is an indication of ferocity and honor. Holding them with your hand is an omen of glory and success. Making them represent convalescence and recovery of energy. To see someone armed fleeing portrays a probable victory. Watching the latter person getting away means safety; the dreamer has nothing to fear. A fired shot predicts unexpected profit.

A weapon or ammunition can represent power or a wish for power.

Consider the context and motivation, which can provide clues to what the weapon represents (powerlessness, fear, insecurity, frustration, self-defense, aggression, a desire to be heard, etc.).

A weapon used with the intent to take advantage of others can represent a feeling or fear of ill will, disrespect, victimizing, or taking from others tangibly or intangibly (time, energy, effort, etc.), such as your boss using authority as a “weapon” to demand you work extra hours without pay.

Particularly in women’s dreams, fear of sexuality. In the case of men, it is partly an expression of fear of the weapons of women. Fear of war.

A weapon in a dream also symbolizes internal poison or corrosion. According to Freud and most of depth psychology, it is a symbol of masculine sexuality, since bullets penetrate the body. Today, this dream image is less relevant, because weapons so often totally destroy the body. This expands on Freud’s interpretation, which sees it as an interesting tension between creating a body (sexuality) and destroying a body (modern weaponry).

Vision: Dreaming about a sharp, pointed weapon: people around you are ready for a fight. Owning a weapon: you need others to respect you more and be a bit afraid of you.

A damaged weapon means your attempts to defend yourself are futile.

Depth Psychology: The dream usually indicates that an important emotional decision needs to made. Because the weapon is a symbol of aggression, and the desire is to solve problems by force, it also stands for aggressive, male sexuality.

Using a weapon of any kind in a competent and confident manner implies aggressiveness in pursuing one’s goals. Using a weapon clumsily is a sign that the dreamer doubts his ability to attain his goals.

Dreams of weapons signify the desire for protection, defense and perhaps to end old patterns, or to kill off an aspect of yourself that is no longer serving you. Also dreams of weapons represent the fight for survival, and the terror of feeling that your life is being threatened.

Weapons represent either aggression or (male) sexuality. Remember that the victim of aggression may be one part of yourself, the aggressor another part of yourself. In other words, there is an inner conflict that needs sorting out.

Misuse of energy; defense, control, manipulation. Words may be weapons. Insight and love are the only weapons needed to create the kind of world we want.
