Sometimes this dream can be literal and tell of a real pregnancy. But more generally if you dream of being pregnant it is to do with a creative idea or project that you are birthing. • Where you are in the pregnancy will give you clues as to your progress.
If you’ve just conceived then it’s a new idea.
If you’re heavily pregnant the idea or project is nearing completion and if you’re giving birth you’re about to manifest or deliver this creative idea to the world.
Often when we are ready for a new relationship, or have begun a new relationship we dream about our exes. This causes many people distress as, even though it is only a dream, you can feel guilty and almost disloyal to your new partner. • However, dreams deal with emotions and memories and any new relationship exposes you to emotional vulnerability. This will trigger your dreaming mind to conjure up examples of when you felt similarly vulnerable which will tend to involve your exes. Explore issues of insecurity.
Celebrities are our modern equivalent of the heroes of old. Meeting famous people in your dreams can be a wish fulfilment dream - do you long to be rich and famous? • It also suggests you are seeking recognition for your own efforts in life. What qualities does the famous person of your dream have that you could adopt for yourself that would be helpful to you right now?
Pets in dreams relate to our desire to be loved and nurtured. When this dream occurs look at where you need to nourish yourself spiritually. • Iso look at your emotional reactions; are you feeling guilty or sad about something you’ve “known” but haven’t acted upon? In dreams pets, due to their domestication, often relate to feelings of responsibility or caring and a desire to be needed and loved.
To dream of police signifies issues of power and control. Investigate the nature of the police in your dream - were they helpful or bullying? • Look at issues of authority in your life. Do you feel controlled by others or perhaps you’ve been too controlling yourself. • Do you need to “police” your own activities more? Or are you doing something you shouldn’t and are scared of being caught?
To be trapped in a dream suggests you feel trapped by your current circumstances. It means you feel unable to see a way of escaping your current problems. • It reflects feelings of frustration perhaps due to being trapped in your job or a difficult relationship. • If you are trapping something in a dream be aware of holding onto things too tightly. • Sometimes dreams of being trapped relate to the paralysis mechanism that affects the large muscle groups during dream sleep to stop us acting out our dreams.
The interpretation of this dream depends on its aspect.
If it involved a proposal of marriage and you accepted (or were accepted), it is a dream of contrary and you can expect a rocky road to romance. However, if you persevere, it may, in time, smooth out.
If the dream involved the acceptance of money or anything else of value, it portends success in pending business matters. Acceptance of anything which is fake or counterfeit suggests you may be too trusting, so reexamine your current relationships.
To accept an invitation is a forerunner to an inheritance or an unexpected gift. **Acceptance: Slow, laborious or delayed acceptance of a person, place or thing shows you have taken the right measures and allotted the right efforts and success is assured very soon. Quick acceptance shows you have been careless and too accepting in this matter and discrepancies are bound to crop up from it. Reevaluating is called for in this situation. Gypsy lore says that a young woman who dreams that she is proposed marriage to and accepts quickly is an indication that her wedding will meet with an unexpected (overlooked) and delaying situations.
To accept a business deal means future success, even if it does not appear to be so at the time.
To be accepted by a lover indicates happiness with that person.
Dreams of acceptance forecast that an opportunity is coming your way. This dream reflects your receptive, feminine spirit, and that you are accepting responsibility for your life and actions. However, dreaming of accepting blame that is not yours is a sign to set boundaries. Consider the feeling tone of this dream to determine its message.
For some reason this seems to work with opposite meaning. Slow and laborious progress before final acceptance (in a dream) indicates quick success to come, while easy acceptance indicates trouble ahead. Acceptance can be shown in many ways. Perhaps, in your dream, you propose to a young lady and she accepts.
An easy, almost immediate acceptance would forebode trouble ahead. Gypsies say that for a young woman to dream that she has accepted her lover’s marriage proposal is a sign that there will be an unexpected delay in their wedding plans.
For a business man to dream that his proposition has been accepted, foretells that he will succeed in making a trade, which heretofore looked as if it would prove a failure.
For a lover to dream that he has been accepted by his sweetheart, denotes that he will happily wed the object of his own and others’ admiration.
If this dream has been occasioned by overanxiety and weakness, the contrary may be expected.
The elementary influences often play pranks upon weak and credulous minds by lying, and deceptive utterances. Therefore the dreamer should live a pure life, fortified by a strong will, thus controlling his destiny by expelling from it involuntary intrusions.
To dream that you have been accepted by your lover, or if a woman, that your lover has proposed to you and that you have accepted him, is generally considered a dream of contrary. It is a warning that your love affairs will not prosper, or at least that it will be a long time coming right. In some localities, however, it is looked upon as a fortunate omen.
Accepting something from the dead is regarded as good while giving him something is regarded as bad.
If a person sees a dead person giving him something of this world it mean he will acquire livelihood from an unimaginable source. And if he sees himself giving a dead person clothes normally worn by living persons and he accepts such clothes and wears them it means he (the giver) has a short life span.
Example: I was in a house that I lived in many years ago. How I got there I do not know, but I saw myself sitting in an ordinary chair just behind the closed front street door. It was very quiet, and I was afraid, but I did not make any effon to move’ (Mrs J).
When we are an inactive observer in our dream, are all the time on the receiving end of dream action, or as in the example make no effon to move from discomfort, we are in a passive role.
If this occurs frequently in our dreams, we are probably passive in our waking life. This can gradually be changed by such techniques as active imagination. It is our own emotions, fears and sexuality we are meeting in our dreams, so it is wise to take charge of our being rather than be a victim.
The following dream illustrates an active dreamer: ‘As I walked toward a house a number of demons or devils came at me menacingly, trying to stop me getting near the house. Although they made all the ghostly noises, I wasn’t at all afraid of them. I felt they were a damned nuisance, and to show them I meant business I grabbed one and with my right hand I gripped its flesh and squeezed. It started to squeak in pain and I squeezed harder’ (Clive J).
During experiments to monitor the brain activity of animals and humans while asleep, it was noted that the brain seemed to move through a series of levels of activity. In deep sleep there are slow rhythmic brainwaves. These at times would give way to faster rhythms of a more dynamic nature. This was at first called desynchronised’ sleep because during it the muscular system relaxed deeply, even though the brain was active. It was also known as paradoxical sleep, but more recently has become internationally known as ‘active sleep’. During active sleep the rapid eye movements (REM) characteristic of dreaming occur.
The brain’s activity was found to be a better indicator of dreaming in animals than REM because some creatures, such as owls, do not move their eyes. In this way, all mammals were seen to exhibit active sleep or dreaming. Birds also dream, and, measured in this way, so do many types of fish, reptiles and some amphibians. See science, sleep and dreams.
To dream of being acupunctured can considered healing, since that is it’s primary purpose. However this varies from traditional medicine, so the healing process it is referring to is questionable or experimental depending on how the dreamer feels.
Often appears in a dream when you are suffering from lack of self-worth. Also addressed here is the dreamer’s “responsibility to govern,” which means facing the problems and developing the capabilities to manage his own issues. In that sense, it addresses self-determination. Such concerns are surely influenced by the dreamer’s attitude toward power and acceptance. Freud is said to have dreamed as a young man that he was a public servant, which might help explain his ambitions.
If you were adopted yourself, expect an appeal for help from some unanticipated quarter (probably a relative). However if you did the adopting, your year ahead will be auspicious for speculation. Also, an adoption of a child indicates good fortune if the child is happy.
If the child is unhappy, it indicates that you will need to put more energy and nurturing into any upcoming deals and situations.
To adopt a person or a way of life is to draw it towards you – to make it your own. From a spiritual perspective this suggests a process of learning to be comfortable within a given set of circumstances – to accept a way of being.
Material aspects: Dreaming of adopting a child suggests you may have doubts about taking on new responsibilities. Conversely such a dream may signify that you are now in a position to take on a new project or concept.
Gives gender - specific: In a man’s dream, being adopted may suggest fear of emotional closeness, whereas in a woman’s dream, she may actually be seeking such closeness. Your own personal circumstances will often give further clarification.
To dream that you or others are adopting a child indicates that you are taking on something new and different. Ask yourself what is missing in your life that would make you happy.
If you dream that you are adopted (and you aren’t in real life), you are feeling out of place in some real-life situation. You may also suspect that those closest to you have been lying to you.
If you dream of giving up a baby for adoption, there is some aspect of yourself or your personal life that is changing, and you are feeling a sense of loss. You may have made a decision you can’t take back, or be sad or anxious about moving on to a new stage. You may also be having trouble making a new personal goal or project happen. Also see “Baby”
If you see yourself being adopted by a group or family, this means acceptance among the people pictured, or self-acceptance with regard to your perceived roles and responsibilities to that group.
Seeing yourself alone waiting for adoption is an alternative type of desertion dream. Alternatively, this reveals insecurity about not being accepted or loved, or feeling totally out of place in your surroundings.
What exactly is being adopted? This symbol can represent an aspect of yourself— an idea or a characteristic with which you’re becoming more accepting and comfortable, thereby adopting it into your being.
By association with the winged chariot, the aeroplane represents a spiritual journey. However as more and more people use this form of transport, the aeroplane can simply suggest the need for quick action or change of circumstance. Like the bus, it can represent a group purpose.
(Psychological / emotional perspective)an aeroplane denotes a search for psychological freedom, a move towards independent being. It also suggests transcendence of the mundane, a need to ‘lift off ’ into new ways of thinking.
Gives gender - specific: In some cases the aeroplane can suggest a phallic symbol or the assertive masculine.
A man may choose this interpretation at the beginning of a new relationship, whereas a woman is more likely to use this interpretation as she progresses further into the relationship and understands her partner’s ambition and drive.
Points to too much fantasizing. Wanderlust, being shallow. Make inquiries before coming to a decision; search for the truth first. This is a frequent dream symbol when life is boring and has no excitement. But this symbol may also be a general sign of searching. Ask yourself what it is that you are looking for (and what it is that you want to find).
Also addressed here may be a life lived intensely and dangerously. It is the image of the male hero that appears when the dreamer is showing little masculinity, and in rare instances, also, when much masculinity is present in a woman or man).
On the other hand, this dream image also appears when the dreamer has an unconscious suspicion that, in most cases, is unfounded. It is helpful in such cases to adopt a positive attitude to life (positive thinking).
We received an interesting amount of mail about dreams containing planes and plane crashes. It appears that people often dream about being in a plane crash, witnessing a crash, or being bombed or shot at from planes. Airplanes, like all other vehicles, symbolize a portion of your life’s journey.
The part of your life which is represented is usually a memory, material from your unconscious mind, or something that is physically far away from you. Since we use planes to travel to places that are far away, the logical progression of this interpretation is that the airplane is symbolic of an event, individuals, or emotions that are either in the past, physically apart from you, or deep in the unconscious and far from conscious thought. Disturbing dreams in which you are being bombed or where you see a bloody crash scene may be trying to bring up issues and feelings that have been buried in the unconscious mind (from the past or the present) but are still powerful and disturbing to the dreamer.
The more powerful, vivid, and disturbing this dream is, the greater the necessity to interpret and obtain a satisfactory meaning. See also: Car, Travel.
Example: I saw a biplane fly overhead. Its pilot was performing daring new stunts. I ran into a house to tell a man who was in bed to run out and see the plane’ (David R).
The example clearly shows one aspect of what a plane means, being daring in a new area, taking risks in life, braving a new work area or relationship. Sometimes the plane in the sky represents us feeling threatened by something new or unknown, thus one dreamer dreamt of bombs being dropped from a plane when she was offered a new job which would take her into the public eye.
The crashed plane: can be anxiety bringing down our ambition or adventurousness; a loss of self confidence or mental equilibrium.
The plane journey: shows a move towards independence; leaving home or friends; success. Being grounded: sense of not getting anywhere and frustration.
An attacking aircraft: feeling attacked either by our own doubts and self criticism, or that of others.
A fast way of moving around .the world, an airplane indicates global ideas or business. Usually associated with freedom, it may be a comment on the level of freedom you have attained.
A plane crash may represent the failure of a business venture. Not being able to get your plane off the ground may represent difficulties in acquinng the capital for a project. Piloting your own plane may represent the ultimate success-driven venture and may mention your need to be your own boss.
Piloting means that your destiny is under your control and that if you exercise your best judgment, you will be successful in any enterprise on which you may embark.
If difficulties arise in such a dream, be prepared to encounter them in your enterprise, but do not be daunted, for you will succeed through your determination, Indicates a successful marriage for a man.
Riding in an airplane with tbe object of your affections foretells a happy married life.
Seeing one or more airplanes is an augury of an improvement in either your financial condition or your love affairs, perhaps both.
The true definition is found in identifing the type of plane and your personal feeling of aircraft.
If you fear air travel, dreaming of being on a passenger jet in flight is likely to be an expression of fear involved with some sort of travel. However if you LIKE to fly then this could also mean happeness. And it can also indicate a desire to rise above it all, an escape.
Dreams of an airplane represent your desire to see life from a higher view, to move out of the mundane, ego experience of life, and begin to take action to live on a higher plane. This dream could also signify that a dramatic life change is on the horizon.
If there is turbulence on the plane, this represents your control issues and that you are trying to stabilize your spiritual life, and that a deeper commitment to your spiritual practice is in order.
If the plane is still on the ground, then you are being guided to have patience.
If you are soaring through the air, then your goals are in mid flight, and you are well on your way to manifesting your souls desires.
If the plane is taking off, bright hopes for the future.
If the dreamer is on the plane while it is on the ground, a wish to attain success quickly by shaking off troublesome surroundings. In actual flight, fulfillment of desires. This is a dream of purpose wherein the dreamer gets an idea into action and succeeds, or must surmount obstacles before the completion.
General Meaning: The vehicle for your ministry. It will be fast, effective and will reach new heights. • Dreams Positive: As with visions, dreaming of a large jumbo jet could speak of a public ministry or, certainly an expansion into something more public.
If you are dreaming of flying the plane, this could speak of a promotion. • Negative: If you have a fear of flying, then dreaming of being in a plane could represent having to face your fears. • Also if you dream that you are flying this plane but that you are not meant to, that someone else should be flying it, this could indicate that you are taking charge of things that are not yours to take charge of. • In a spiritual context it could speak of you taking things out of the Lord’s hands.
The solution of course is to let go and put God back in control of your life. • Visions Positive: I have come to see airplanes in dreams and visions as a representation of ministry.
The larger the plane, the larger the ministry.
The larger the plane, the more members and helpers are needed on board to aid the ministry. • At one time the Lord kept showing each of the AMI Team as fighter planes flying in formation. • A fighter plane is a weapon of war. It is fast and effective, and if you want to find a good comparison for it in Scripture, you would use the eagle or the bird of prey as an example. • The fighter plane speaks of a ministry of intercession and warfare. It speaks of surveying the land on behalf of the Body of Christ and overcoming the enemy in it; of going ahead and scout the area for any attacks. • This speaks of a very aggressive ministry that is more personal in nature and will cripple the Kingdom of darkness! Consider this passage: • Speaking of War: • Jeremiah 49:22 Behold, he shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread his wings over Bozrah: and at that day shall the heart of the mighty men of Edom be as the heart of a woman in her pangs. • See also: Car, Vehicles.
To dream of being in this event is a feeling of not only a dramatic negative change in your life, but also to everyone around you as well as your envorment.
A very negative symbol and should be meditated upon.
To dream of witnessing this event is symbolic of feelings of helplessness in the face of a great tragedy. In prohetic dreams this heralds a great change in the distant future (planes are associated with great distance). This change may not be negative.
You are in control and most likely utilizing other than physical powers to get to your goal whether you are consciously aware of it or not. Also, are you a pilot, part of the crew, a passenger, or observer? If you are piloting the plane - you are in control and are the one with direction and know how. You are utilizing a higher power to get to your goal.
If you are a part of the crew, you support the pilot, and care take the passengers. Unusual experiences, upcoming good luck. Independence, freedom, and confidence. Ambition success: indicates rapid advancement with opportunity for self-expression, especially if you are the pilot of the plane. As a part of the crew, you are a transmitter and relay the messages and carry out the intentions of the other than physical to those in your group or care. Airplane Passenger - You are being carried to other than physical levels. Advancement. Goals being materialized. Also, it appears that people often dream about being in a plane crash, witnessing a crash, or being bombed or shot at from planes. Airplanes, like all other vehicles, symbolize a portion of your life’s journey.

Movement and transition, similar to other vehicles (see Car, Hone, Spaceship). Where the plane goes, its logo, or the other passengers on board (if any) may give you more clues here.
If you’re in the plane, enroute, this can be considered a type of flying or ascent dream.
Higher ideals, due to this vehicle’s movement toward the heavens. Also the courage to achieve a goal (e.g., “reach new heights”).
A plane that sits endlessly on a runway indicates a life that has somehow become stagnant, or one that is being held back by outside influences. Check to see who, or what, resides in the control towerl
Being lost at the airport, or looking for someone there, characterizes confusion caused by getting one’s signals crossed, or through poor planning. Make sure you have your information straight, get organized, then readdress this situation.
Waiting at the airport, surrounded by strangers, and never being met by the anticipated party is a type of desertion dream.
Airplanes represent our journey through life. They signify a desire for excitement and new adventures. They can also be a powerful dream metaphor of either your life taking off or crash landing. • What is happening to the plane in the dream will tell you which.
For example, if the plane can’t get off the ground are you struggling to get your career to take off? • If you’re flying high towards your destination are you on the fast track to success or do you just need a holiday?
Making new departures; changes; being en route to something new in life; a checking of one’s own values, identity, a sort of self assessment in regard to independence and moving to new opportunities. Self doubts and uncertainties at this stage stop us from attempting the new,
1- In dreaming of an airport we arc entering a stage of transition, making decisions to move into new areas of life. It may also indicate we are, or should be, making a fresh assessment of our own identity.
2- We arc being put in a position where our values mav need to be reassessed in the light of our own or someone else’s authority.
3- An airport, because of its transitory nature is a place for new experiences. We are ready to consider our spiritual progression.
To dream of an airport with high traffic means that you wish to be free, have ambitious goals, or possess elevated moral standings. This dream signals that you are ready for a new beginning. You have an idea that will take root and be successful.
A new companion or career move could be coming.
To dream of an empty airport means that your trip or other plans could be altered or put on hold.
In a dream the sight of a busy airport represents the desire for freedom and/or travel as this is the jumping off point for all those who travel the world and it brings out your hidden desires to do the same.
If the airport is empty and deserted your own travel plans will be changed or delayed.
Dreams of an airport symbolize your spiritual center, the place from which you depart and land. This is where you refuel to prepare for your next adventure or flight of fancy. This dream could also be predicting a major change in your life.
An airport, because of its transitory nature, is a place for new experiences. We are ready to consider our spiritual progression, to move into a new way of perceiving life and all it has to offer. It signifies the desire for freedom, high ideals, ambition and hopes.
Psychological / emotional perspective: Being delayed at an airport suggests that conditions are not yet right for what it is you wish to begin. We are being put in a position where our values may need to be reassessed in the light of our own – or someone else’s – authority.
Material aspects: In dreaming of an airport we are entering a stage of transition, making decisions to move into new areas of life. It may also indicate we are, or should be, making a fresh assessment of our own identity. Watching planes take off from an airport lounge suggests that we are – or fear – being left behind.
If someone sees Allah occupying his bed, congratulating him, then this is a glad tiding that Allah will grant him piety and sainthood and that Allah’s blessings will descend upon him. For, a dream such as this is not viewed but by pious and righteous persons.
Seeing or manufacturing aloe perfume in a dream means religious innovation, dirty money, evil reputation, placing things in the wrong place, or it could mean doing good deeds for profit. (Also see Civet; ‘Ud)
Dreams of the alphabet symbolize that you are spelling out your feelings and thoughts in a desire to be understood. Your dream may be telling you that if you keep communication simple, it is more apt to be understood. See Word.
Individual letters usually stand for something, such as a person: for example, the letter “g” or the sound of a “g” may stand for “george,” or some other significant person or object in a person’s life.
Dreams of an American Express card symbolize that you shouldn’t leave home without connecting to your spirit and to make sure that you carry your sense of self, spirit and purpose with you at all times. See Credit Card.
A challenge to become active, to produce, even if it is risky. Fights and risky self-portrayal, as in Adventure, Athlete, Arena, and Circus. Points to the importance of presentation (the show). Social criticism. Tourist attraction, vacation.
An approach suggested by Carl Jung. In essence it is to honour what the dream states. In the dream quoted above under amnesia, David is sleeping on a mattress, but it could have been a bed or a hammock, or even a sleeping bag. So why a mattress and why in the garden, and why not alone? Having noted the specifics of our dream, we then amplify what we know about them. We ask ourself such questions as ‘What does sleeping on a mattress on the floor mean? Have I ever done it? When? Why? Where? In what circumstances? Does it represent some condition?’ In other words we bring out as much information as we can about each dream specific; this includes memories, associated ideas, anything relevant. In the case of David, he was sleeping on a mattress on the floor in his present relationship. But he had slipped back into attitudes which damaged this old relationship. P.W. Martin emphasises it is amplification not free association which is sought. Free association may lead to an interesting ‘interpretation’ which may not be connected to the dream specifics. See dream processing; postures, movement and body language; word analysis of dreams; settings.
This is a frightening dream which may be due to anxiety and fear. It suggests feelings of frustration, anger, and powerlessness on the part of the dreamer. This dream may also be related to a radical removal of something from one’s life. Some believe that you are trying to get rid of something that is no longer desirable or necessary or that the limb or the part being amputated has lost its power. According to New Age thinking, the right side of the body is usually associated with the ability to give emotionally, psychologically and physically to yourself and others, while the left is linked with the ability to receive. Carl Jung said that the left side represents the unconscious while right indicates the conscious.
What is being removed from you? Wounds, injury, disappointments. Losing something of oneself. Always restricted and needs are ignored (see Abortion, Funeral, Divorce, and Death). Expression of fear of loss and an invitation to discard nonessentials. Important: Which limb is being amputated?
Vision: Dreaming about a hand or leg being amputated always indicates emotional loss in the near future. Undergoing an amputation means separation from a loved one. Amputation of a hand means your actions are restricted; or that you are not “sharing” enough with others. Amputation of a leg: you can’t (or should) stop running away, you’re heading in the wrong direction. Men dreaming about amputation means fear of “castration,” or fear of impotence.
Depth Psychology: Dreaming about amputation means that your life has been torn apart and your peace of mind is under attack.
The part being amputated usually refers to parts of ourselves that haven’t been functioning properly. See Arm, Leg, Left, Right.
To dream of an amputation symbolizes a need for integration because you’ve been feeling scattered or cut off from your source. This dream can also be showing you where you give your power away. See Body and Integration Dreams.
Spiritually any amputation signifies a loss of some sort – we may be attempting to disfigure the perfect. Often dreams show by their symbolism what is not right or good and a dream of amputation suggests that we need to take action to rectify the situation.
Psychological / emotional perspective: We are suffering from a loss of power or ability and may, in the process, find that we have cut short an experience. Since pain is often a consequence of an amputation, we are trying to come to terms with pain or unpleasantness which has occurred in waking life.
Gives gender - specific: Arising from the patterning laid down in the womb, dreams of amputation of a limb can often have a sexual or gender specific meaning. In a man’s dream there is an aspect of emasculation occurring, whereas in a woman’s dream, she may be experiencing problems with aspects of her animus.
This dream may be pointing to one of your perceptions about life or be symbolic of life itself. You may see some parts of your life as lively, interesting, adventurous and entertaining. On the other hand, depending on the details of the dream you may see yourself as being on a wild ride, where nothing is terribly serious and life is a perpetual “roller coaster ride.” If you have been dealing with a significant amount of stress in your daily life or have been overworked, this dream may be a form of compensation.
The dream’s message may be to encourage you to find time for fun and relaxation as well as to remind you that life is full of ups and downs and that a light-hearted attitude may be a refreshing change.

To dream about being in an amusement park signifies that you require some relaxation time and more fun out of life. Most aspects of the amusement park are indications of yourself. This also could mean that recently you have been readily sidetracked.
To dream of an abandoned amusement park could indicate that you require more excitement and exploration of fun in your life.
Dreams of an amusement park symbolize your connection with your childlike, playful essence and to the joy of being alive. Perhaps this is a message for you to enjoy your life, even the ups and downs and highs and lows. You can find joy and humor in every situation if you are open to it. See Park and Roller Coaster.
Dreaming of being at an amusement park represents a busy and stressful daily life. You need to set some time for leisure and more enjoyment in your life. Consider how everything in the park is an expression of some aspect of yourself. This dream can also mean that you have been easily distracted lately.
To dream that the amusement park is empty or abandoned, suggests that you need to open yourself up to more fun and adventure.
A humble and distinguished character actor, Anthony Hopkins has achieved fame and recognition in numerous roles. He may offer the message that you may need to become more humble and honorable. As Hannibal the cannibal, in Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal, this strong character actor may come as the archetype of the Devil to demonstrate the force of evil in your life.
To dream of anthropology symbolizes that you are relating to yourself from the perspective of your history and mythology, with a desire to understand yourself and those around you. Alternatively, your dream may be showing you that you are stuck in the past and that your most relevant and valuable access to wisdom resides in the present moment.
If you have a feeling of anticipation (anxiously/hopefully awaiting something) in your dream, it symbolizes your expectations and anxieties about some unknown situation or result in real life. You are ready to take action. This dream can also mean that an exciting experience is about to happen to you!
The space you are allowing yourself to live and operate in. Have you separated yourself into different compartments? You are living one life right now, but you may be trying to live two or more separate lives in one.
A dream of an apartment is usually a simple dream and shows the dreamer the state of finances or other situation he or she may be involved in.
A beautiful, lavish apartment indicates you will see a large increase in your income or your family life will improve.
If the apartment is shabby and dark then you will experience misfortune and possible loss of a husband, lover, or money. Try to recall the other symbols that caught your eye in your dream apartment and you will come close to approximating it’s meaning.
Compartmentalization. Each door here represents a different aspect of self and your experiences.
Alternatives. Every door is another option waiting for examination.
Being lost in an apartment complex symbolizes having too many options from which to choose, and finding yourself overwhelmed by those options. Narrow down the field a little, then reapproach this situation.
Who are you hanging onto that is influencing you negatively? Someone who is not a real friend? If you deserve better believe it with all your being and repattern the old belief that this is all you can have.
A dream of deceit, treacherous friends and associates (Artemidorus) ; Plato taught that the soul of a bad jester would return as an ape; it is a modern symbol of unclean- ness, lust, cunning, and malice. It was, however, an emblem of wisdom in Egypt and of the god Thoth, patron of the art of writing.
Can represent a world of experience human beings have lost and feel sorrow at its absence. In developing self consciousness, with its labyrinth of ideas and decisions, humans lost a sense of oneness with life around them. Animals have enormous remembered wisdom; remembered through instincts and complex social codes. This wisdom is still accessible to humans who can listen to the unconscious, and discover the enormous wealth of information they have about such things as social behaviour and body language.
The ape can depict this wisdom, especially if it is white haired. Or it might show the personal folly of trying to let instincts dominate us now we have self awareness. Idioms: he is just aping.
Developmental difficulties. Points at the same time to increased rigidity. You need to allow yourself to be more playful and happy. Leave room for the animal side of you (the ape is considered one of the most sexual animals).
The ape is the shadow of the ego, the soul of instinct, the most ancient and most human creature.
It is a symbol of imitation, which points to self- ridicule as well as a lack of autonomy. Pay special attention to the type of ape that appears in the dream.
As science discovers just how closely associated we are to the ape, it is hardly surprising that over the centuries this creature has had projected upon it aspects of our own character that we find difficult to handle.
The ape in dreams, therefore, can suggest the trickster, the mischievous side of wrongdoing, and irresponsibility. However, in hindu belief the character of hanuman the monkey god teaches us of the unlimited power that lies unused within each one of us.
Material aspects: Traditionally, to dream of apes or monkeys links with the mischievous side of ourselves. However, as perception changes, the symbolism is more of natural intelligence. Also consult the entry for monkey in animals for further information.
Dreams of an apocalypse are helping you process through an ego-annihilating experience. This dream also reflects that you are on the verge of a major transformation. See Breakdown, Breakthrough and Venting Dreams.
The end of the world as we know it is such a potent image that it is part and parcel of almost every religion’s belief system. In dreams the apocalypse (literally ‘the lifting of the veil’) is often the revelation of hidden meaning. It has much to do with our fears, with the survival of the fittest and a reshuffling of those aspects of life that are important to us. In such dreams it will be your beliefs and your faith that is the saving grace. Usually there is a particular symbol associated with your own basic belief which separates you from others in the dream.
Psychological / emotional perspective: Apocalyptic dreams tend to be more prevalent at times of great change, either personal or otherwise. You may need to protect yourself from others and hold fast to an inner conviction in order to overcome opposition.
The sense of knowing something or having information that no-one else does is a feature of dreams of the apocalypse.
Material aspects: Dreaming of an apocalypse is quite simply marking a transition period, moving away from a former course of action or way of being. Instinctively you may feel that the risks you must take are too great, or that you can only effect change by a massive shift in circumstances.
To dream that you are apologizing to someone represents the different relationships that have influenced you throughout your life. It also symbolizes honesty and absolution. You should dissolve feelings of resentment towards others.
This dream always has something to say about our relationships, the relationship that we have with ourselves and/or with others. Apologies are associated with forgiveness and honesty. Thus, consider the details of your dream and consider whether an apology is necessary in order for you to move forward in a particular relationship or with an area of your personal life.
Also, another chance could be available to making a relationship workable. Forgive, but do not accept abuse. Be forgiven, but do not dish out abuse. Repattern before you are faced with reliving it over in the same way again.
Psychological / emotional perspective: It is important that we feel good about ourselves and, as dreams are a way of righting an imbalance, we have a mechanism through apology to put right an act or deed, either our own or others’, which has upset us.
An apostle dream is much like that of an angel dream but more men then women seem to have these. Usually when an apostle speaks to you in a dream it is a spiritual message for you and deserves the utmost attention you can give it. See Angel.
Dreams of an apostle symbolize that good news is coming your way. Perhaps this dream is alerting you to pay attention to a guru/teacher that will be appearing in your life, or that the guru/teacher that you’ve been praying for is you. See Angel and Ambassador.
Dreams of apparel, denote that enterprises will be successes or failures, as the apparel seems to be whole and clean, or soiled and threadbare.
To see fine apparel, but out of date, foretells that you will have fortune, but you will scorn progressive ideas.
If you reject out-of-date apparel, you will outgrow present environments and enter into new relations, new enterprises and new loves, which will transform you into a different person.
To see yourself or others appareled in white, denotes eventful changes, and you will nearly always find the change bearing sadness.
To walk with a person wearing white, proclaims that person’s illness or distress, unless it be a young woman or child, then you will have pleasing surroundings for a season at least.
To see yourself, or others, dressed in black, portends quarrels, disappointments, and disagreeable companions; or, if it refers to business, the business will fall short of expectations.
To see yellow apparel, foretells approaching gaieties and financial progress. Seen as a flitting spectre, in an unnatural light, the reverse may be expected. You will be fortunate if you dream of yellow cloth.
To dream of blue apparel, signifies carrying forward to victory your aspirations, through energetic, insistent efforts. Friends will loyally support you.
To dream of crimson apparel, foretells that you will escape formidable enemies by a timely change in your expressed intention.
To see green apparel, is a hopeful sign of prosperity and happiness.
To see many colored apparel, foretells swift changes, and intermingling of good and bad influences in your future.
To dream of misfitting apparel, intimates crosses in your affections, and that you are likely to make a mistake in some enterprise.
To see old or young in appropriate apparel, denotes that you will undertake some engagement for which you will have no liking, and which will give rise to many cares.
For a woman to dream that she is displeased with her apparel, foretells that she will find many vexatious rivalries in her quest for social distinction.
To admire the apparel of others, denotes that she will have jealous fears of her friends.
To dream of the loss of any article of apparel, denotes disturbances in your business and love affairs.
For a young woman to dream of being attired in a guazy black costume, foretells she will undergo chastening sorrow and disappointment.
For a young woman to dream that she meets another attired in a crimson dress with a crepe mourning veil over her face, foretells she will be outrivaled by one she hardly considers her equal, and bitter disappointment will sour her against women generally.
The dreamer interpreting the dream of apparel should be careful to note whether the objects are looking natural.
If the faces are distorted and the light unearthly, though the colors are bright, beware; the miscarriage of some worthy plan will work you harm. There are few dreams in which the element of evil is wanting, as there are few enterprises in waking life from which the element of chance is obviated. See Clothes and Coat.
(Adornment; Attire; Costume; Garb; Veil) In a dream, one’s apparel vary in meaning depending on their contents, colors or type, etcetera. Wearing one’s garb in the winter in a dream is better than wearing it in the summer. Wrapping oneself with a cloth in a dream means becoming poor.
An attire in a dream represents a man and a leader.
An attire for a scholar, or a merchant, or a leader in a dream represents his trade through which one earns his livelihood and which protects him from adversities.
If one’s apparel is dirty in the dream, then it reflects his life and appearance.
If one wears a beautiful garb in the summertime in a dream, it means that he is ostentatious, arrogant and vainglorious. It also could mean that he is under great pressure and suffering from a painful distress, for the heat of a summer in a dream signifies distress.
If a woman sees herselfwearing a man’s apparel in a dream, it means piety and success in her material and spiritual life.
If a man sees himself wearing a woman’s apparel in a dream, it means that he will be afflicted with fear, depression, subjugation, humiliation, trials, then all of it will be lifted away from him. (Also see Veil; Yashmak)
What are the colors and condition of the apparel? This is another indication of patterns in your life now acting out. These are the patterns you clothe yourself in for others to see and experience, and the patterns that are protecting or degrading you experiences.
Take unusual care of all depending upon you. Calamity awaits you and yours. Both property and life are in danger. Young people should be decidedly upright in their communications with the opposite sex. Character is likely to be rated at a discount.
No harm is foretold by a dream of ghosts or other Apparitions, unless their presence or sudden appearance frightens you or makes you ill. In that case, you must expect financial difficulties, perhaps ill-health
(Emergence; Manifestation; Visibility) In a dream, if one sees somethingthat is kept away from him as a secret, it means experiencing comfort after suffering from trials, receiving compensation after suffering from injustice, conceiving a child after having given up hope or the like examples.
A revealed secret on time in a dream means fulfillment of a promise, satisfying one’s needs, repayment of one’s debts, arriving of a long awaited person from a journey, release of a prisoner from his jail, and for a woman, it could mean becoming pregnant.
If something emerges at the wrong time in a dream, it means debts.
(Sated; Saturation; To eat one’s fill) In a dream, to eat one’s fill means fidgety or restlessness. Ifone sees himself satiated with food and could not eat any more in a dream, it means changing of his condition, losing rank, losing business, or his death. This interpretation is applicable unless one finds in his dream extra space to fill with food, then the dream means that his lot in this world will equal the size of that remaining space. Eating to one’s fill in a dream also represents working for one’s livelihood or recovering extra money. Some interpreters convey that hunger in a dream is better than satiation, while to drink extra water in a dream is better than thirst.
Approval. Vanity based on fear of rejection or success. Often a sign of avoiding criticism.
One is surrounded by envy and jealousy.
A warning not to be so vain. Also an expression of the need for recognition. You should compliment yourself and others. In any case, you want others to pay attention to you. What are you doing to make it happen?
An apple in a dream also denotes one’s determination and good will.
To a king, apples in a dream represent his kingdom.
To a merchant, they represent his merchandise, and to a farmer theyrepresent his crop. Eating apples in a dreammeans determination. Eating a sweet apple in a dream means lawful earnings, while eating a sour tasting apple means acquiring unlawful earnings. Sour apples in a dream mean divisiveness and hurt, while its tree represents torpor. Ifa king throws an apple at one of his subjects in a dream, it means good news or attainment of one’s goals. Planting an apple tree in a dream means adopting or caring for an orphan.
An apple tree in a dream represents a good man and a believer who serves and benefits his community. Eating an apple in a dream also means earning somethingpeople cannot See. Plucking an apple in a dream meansmoneyearned through a respectable person. Counting apples in a dream means counting money. Smelling an apple inside a mosque in a dream means getting married.
If a woman sees herself smelling an apple during a reception in a dream, it means misconduct and the permeation of sin. Ifshe sees herselfeating an apple in a known place in a dream, it means that she will give birth to a handsome son. Biting on an apple in a dream means satisfying one’s sexual desires or being sexually obsessed. (Also see Magician)
This simple and basic fruit is a powerful symbol in religious writings, literature and in dreams. It fundamentally represents knowledge and the freedom that are associated with it. With knowledge and freedom we are in a position to make positive or negative choices.
The apple should be interpreted with the consideration of all the other details in the dream. Is the apple a symbol of positive movement and spiritual and emotional liberation, or is it a symbol of runaway passions and the resulting negativity? Are you giving into temptation and making hurtful choices or are being wise and enjoying the fullness of life? **Apples: Apples speak of emotions and include long happy lives, love, children, relationships, temptations and desires. Is the apple in good condition or does it contain worms; it is attractive and firm; rotting or partially eaten? Whatever its condition, it is describing what is happening in the arena of your emotional life.
If you are being handed an apple, it could be saying that someone is tempting you. Take a good look at the apple that is being handed to you - is it as it should be? Who is handing it to you? What condition are the apples in? Applies indicate love, protection, and good luck generated by positive and healthy personal ethics.
Health and naturalness; also renewal of life and the symbol of immortality (the golden apple). Seduction and sexual symbol for breast. (The ideal in the Middle Ages was to have breasts like little apples.) Something that turns into something good (and deservedly so—for instance, William TelPs apple) or, less frequently, something that turns into something bad (see the Apple of Paris).
According to Freud, the apple, like almost every other Fruit, is the symbol for breasts, particularly when there is more than one apple. In psychoanalysis apples are generally considered a typical sexual symbol. According to C. G. Jung, they are a symbol of life, an ancient fertility symbol, as are the pomegranate, fig, and quince).
An old Gypsy belief says that “Should a girl wish to dream of her future husband, it is necessary for her to obtain an apple from a widow on Saint Andrews Eve. She must not give thanks for receipt of the apple, and should eat half of it before midnight, and the other half after midnight. Her future lover will then be revealed whilst she is asleep.” See also Fruits.
Temptation to break personal taboos, or divine or societal laws. Responsible use of knowledge, skills, or wisdom.
Matters of health: How the apple looks may have a direct bearing on how you’re feeling.
Appearing abundantly on a tree: A propitious sign that speaks of realizing your hopes.
Only at the top of a tree: High ambitions that you may not be able to safely or effectively reach.
Worm ridden: If you bite into an apple to discover a worm, this means that something isn’t as good as it outwardly appears, especially someone’s ethical codes.
Arthurian: Longevity. King Arthur was taken to Avalon, the Isle of Apples, to live forever. Similarly, in Norse legends apples are used as a resurrection charm, and Hera’s Tree of Life is filled with golden apples.
The apple is a symbol of wisdom. Associated with the Garden of Eden, the apple can represent carnal knowledge. When an apple is cut to reveal a cross section, a five-pointed star can be seen. This star is the symbol of feminine creativity and of the mysteries within nature. Reminding that “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.’ it may signify good health. Finally, the golden apple was associated with the goddess Aphrodite as the prize for her beauty.
Depending on the context of the dream, an Apple can signify love (if the apple is fresh and given to someone), guilt (only if one associates eating an apple with the biblical reference to the garden of Eden). In prophetic dreams the apple is considered to be a very good omen, but the interpretation depends primarily on what the details are.
If the apples are ripe there is a promise of financial rewards but if the apples were green, bitter, or tainted in some way then you are in danger of losing something through mistake or foolishness that you would have otherwise gained.
Dreams of an apple symbolize fertility, health, the divine feminine, or the vagina. Whether you are male or female, dreams of a ripe, juicy red apple, may suggest that it is time for you to celebrate your femininity.
If the apple is unripe or bitter, then your dream is cautioning you to be patient in your endeavors.
If the apple is rotten, then you’ve been neglecting your inner goddess.
Psychological / emotional perspective: Eating an apple symbolizes the wish to take in information or knowledge. This has an obvious connection with eve’s temptation of adam. As with many natural symbols, the phrases we use in the everyday can give rise to dream images. Thus to be giving someone an apple can suggest showing appreciation, whereas to pick up a rotten apple can signify meeting someone who is not good for us.
Gives gender - specific: It is mainly by association that the apple has come to represent the feminine principle and sometimes the maternal breast. It is more likely to have this meaning in a man’s dream than in a woman’s. As a symbol of carnal knowledge it represents fertility.
Apple computers are known for being user- friendly and are preferred by most artists. One may appear in a dream to spark your creative side. As the apple represents wisdom. this symbol may indicate that it is time to go ahead and use your wisdom to create something beautiful.
Symbol: The apple—as far back as antiquity—is a symbol of fertility. #
Vision: Looking at many apples in a tree: you have many friends. Eating a red apple: love will enter your life soon.
If single, you will meet a new partner; if married, you will experience a renewal of your love life.
If the apple has worms: frustration or separation.
If it is full of worms: problems in your love relationship.
If the apple is rotten: trouble is on the horizon. Biting into a sour apple: for better or worse, you must deal with an unpleasant situation.
A golden apple: you are gaining self-knowledge. Giving a woman an apple: you will find a new female friend. Looking at an apple tree in bloom: business success. Looking at an apple tree just before harvest: chances for profit are good.
Depth Psychology: The apple, the biblical symbol of original sin, is always a symbol for love.
The state of the apple indicates the state of the dreamer’s love life. Since the apple always stands for sensual/worldly temptations, you might be thinking of giving in to them. See Fruit.
This is a very good dream to the majority of people.
To see red apples on trees with green foliage is exceedingly propitious to the dreamer.
To eat them is not as good, unless they be faultless.
A friend who interprets dreams says: ``Ripe apples on a tree, denotes that the time has arrived for you to realize your hopes; think over what you intend to do, and go fearlessly ahead. Ripe on the top of the tree, warns you not to aim too high. Apples on the ground imply that false friends, and flatterers are working you harm. Decayed apples typify hopeless efforts.’’
It symbolises a man’s trade, his income as well as his courage. Hence, if a king sees himself eating it, it symbolises his kingdom.
If a trader sees it, it symbolises his trade. Therefore, if a person sees himself as acquiring or eating one, it means he will acquire wealth proportionate to the freshness, taste and extent of the apple he has eaten : if it was sweet, the wealth will be excellent; if fresh, it will be of good quality; if little, he will acquire little; if a great deal, he will acquire it in abundance.
Ripe apples augur success in trade, love, etc.; green apples, the contrary.
The gypsy influence is distinctly traceable in the folk-lore of the apple as coloring the dream. It confers immortal youth in the fairy-tale, golden apples, love apples, etc., while in Christian symbolism it represents the fall from Eden, the sin that made Christ’s coming necessary. Freud makes this a sexual dream, and Inman gives the apple as a symbol of sexual love.
To see apples growing in a tree is an indication of great intelligence and wealth. You will achieve goals that you have worked hard to attain. Apples in your dream may also be a suggestion to look after your well-being so that you don’t contract an illness or disease.
To dream that you are eating an apple implies that you are at peace and in accord with your present life situation. According to the Bible, eating an apple represents fantasies and sexual desires.
To see green apples symbolizes a relationship or friendship that will mature or will thrive.
To see rotten or eaten apples in your dream indicates that you are reaching for goals that are not satisfying and will not bring you pleasure. These goals may actually prove to be more destructive than not. It may also be an indication of your reckless attitude and behavior.
Applying surma to the eyes suggest the observer’s rightful conduct in matters of his Deen. Applying surma in the eyes with the object of adornment suggest that the observer will accomplish a religious task as a result of which he will enjoy credibility amongst the people. Sometimes a person’s eye may sumbolise either his belonging, sons, brother or leader. Any excellence or defect in the eye will then reflect a similar excellence or defect in any of the above.
Time is a man-made concept so, from a spiritual perspective, when we dream of having to keep an appointment we need to make use of time in the most spiritually effective way. There may be an issue to do with our self-discipline.
Psychological / emotional perspective: We can perhaps give ourselves a gift or a reward for good work. There is something that has to be accomplished within a certain time limit. Often the person we have the appointment with may be important.
To dream of the television show, “The Apprentice” or of actually being an apprentice symbolizes that you are learning, growing and applying your talent in the real world. This dream may be giving you the message to follow in the footsteps of a master. See Donald Trump.
An apprentice is technically assigned to a worker in order to learn a trade or profession. In spiritual terms, we all learn by example and, should an apprentice appear in dreams, we need only discover what it is that we should be learning.
Psychological / emotional perspective: Life is a learning process and an apprentice suggests that a commitment has been given to enable us to learn more – to put our knowledge to good use and ultimately to pass on our own knowledge.
(Fruit) In season, seeing an apricot in a dream means money. Seeing apricot out of season in a dream means illness.
A fruitbearing apricot tree in a dream represents a rich man. However, it is said that an apricot tree in a dream also represents someone who suffers from a serious illness, and is oflittle or no use to others. On the other hand, it is said that an apricot tree in a dream represents someone with a cheerful face, who is courageous in defends himself, but who is stingy with his own family. When the apricot is still green and unripened in the dream, it represents little money. When it ripens and becomes yellow in a dream, it denotes greater profits. Eating a ripened apricot in a dream means being generous and charitable, or it could mean recovering from an illness. Breaking a branch from an apricot tree in a dream means a dispute with one’s family or with a friend. In general, breaking a branch from a tree in a dream means claiming someone’s money or denying him his money, or it could mean failing to perform one’s prayers, neglecting one’s obligatory fast or misusing and damaging someone else’s property. Attending an apricot farm in a dream means trustworthiness and dutifulness. It is also said that an apricot tree in a dream represents a hypocrite, because yellow in a dream means illness, and hypocrisy is an illness.
An apricot tree in a dream also represents a wealthy woman. Plucking apricots from a tree in a dream also could mean marrying such a woman. Harvesting any fruitbearing tree in season in a dream means pleasures and work, except for the mulberry tree, for here it means toiling, hardship or waste of time. Plucking apricots from an apple tree in a dream means impressing unjust rules upon others. In general, a yellow colored fruit in a dream signifies illness.
A sower tasting fruit in a dream signifies distress and sorrow. Apricot in a dream also signifies fear, bringing things under control, things returning to normal or it could even mean pleasant gains. (Also see Fruit)
Apricot dreams are generally negative in character.
To dream that you - or others - are eating apricots is a warning of approaching misfortune and bad luck. Similarly, if you saw apricots growing on a tree in your dream, your current optimistic outlook may give way to sadness and disappointment. Be careful of what you assume.
Dreams of April represent the beginning of a new chapter in your life and the joy of new love. Your dream is giving you the message to be patient with the new seeds of future visions that have recently been planted. See Rain and Spring.
See Veil, Curtain. Protection and domesticity, as in Baking, Roast, Cooking, Iron, Hen, Pillow, Porcelain. Also a symbol for transformation (it was in St. Elizabeth’s apron that food for the poor was transformed into roses).
The apron is also connected with the image girls and women hide—the secret of motherhood. According to Jung, the apron also has sexual meanings. Loss of an apron symbolizes the loss of virginity.
Vision: A man dreaming about wearing an apron: don’t get into things that are not your business. It also means stop “running after every skirt”! A woman wearing an apron: your housewifely duties are calling you—take care of them now; or your partner is making a lot of work for you.
Dreams of an apron represent that you are connecting with your maternal energy and are perhaps cooking up something delicious in your life. Because an apron is worn around your waist and covers your first three Chakras, this dream is suggesting a desire for protection against spills, thrills and sexual projections.
An apron can represent a badge of office and, as in freemasonry, this suggests craftsmanship; in ancient china it was part of sacrificial regalia. It also has the symbolism of dividing the body into the upper, nobler part and the lower, baser instincts.
Gives gender - specific: It depends on the gender of the dreamer and the content of the dream whether this image is negative or positive. In a woman’s dream it might signify her nurturing side. In a man’s dream it is more likely to represent his relationship with his mother.
Rules and formulas to be followed. Are the rules reasonable and accurate or is someone trying to control you? Could it be by your own belief in restrictions? Who is being holier than thou? Rules have their place as in the formula for water; H20 is the rule that is followed to create water. Nothing else will do.
If you are not trying to create water, you need not follow that rule or be held by it.
Although the word archetype has a long history, Carl Jung used it to express something he observed in human dreams. He said the archetypes are a tendency or instinctive trend in the human unconscious to represent certain motifs or themes. As our instinctive urge to reproduce may show itself in consciousness as sexual fantasies, so archetypes show themselves as cenain dream, fantasy, or story themes. Just as each individual animal does not create its own instincts, we do not create our own collective thought pattern.
The influence these archetypes have upon our conscious self is varied. Panly they are supportive, as instincts are to an animal.
Some ancient cultures erected a pantheon of gods and goddesses. Many of these gods were expressions of archetypal themes, such as death, rebirth and womanhood.
A sheepdog has in itself, unconsciously, a propensity to herd animals under direction. Through the worship of gods, perhaps ancient people touched similar reservoirs of strength and healing. Without such, the individual might find it mcre difficult to face the fact that death waits at the end of their life, or to allow sexuality to emerge into their life at pube ty.
The dream of a girl suffering from anorexia shows her cutting off her own breasts with scissors. Here her developing sexual traits and urges are unacceptable to her. Perhaps she ‘cuts them off’ by not eating, thus preventing her body and psyche from maturing. In the past it would have been recommended that she give offerings to a goddess, thus aligning her with an unconscious power to adapt and mature.
Some of these archetypal patterns of behaviour, such as territorialism and group identity, are only too obviously behind much that occurs in war, and their influence needs to be brought more fully into awareness. But we must be careful in accepting Jung s descnption of the archetypes. In more recent years, through the tremendously amplified access to the unconscious made possible in psychiatry through such drugs as LSD, a lot more information about unconscious imagery has been made available. It is possible thai certain synthesising aspects of the mind produce images to represent huge areas of collected experience, i.e. the Mystic Mother or Madonna representing our collected experience of our mother.
Whatever may be the explanation of these archetypal themes, they are imponant because they illustrate how we as individuals, and as human beings collectively, have been able to develop^ur sense of conscious identity amidst enormous forces of unconsciousness, collectivity and external stresses. Below are some common archetypal symbols and their associated images.
1- Archetypes are basic pictures that each of us hold deep within our subconscious. They are in a sense ‘psychic’ blueprints. These blueprints while potentially perfect can become distorted by- childhood experiences, socialisation and even parental experience.
C G Jung began studying archetypes and dividing function into thinking, feeling, sensation and intuition. Following various work by his pupils, it became possible to build up a type of ‘map’ of the interaction between all of these functions and to discover where one’s own distortions occur. Each function has a ‘positive’ and ‘negative’ quality which is perhaps better described as ‘greater’ and ‘lesser’. Each of the masculine and feminine sides of the personality has these four functions, thus there are 64 (8 x 8) interactions possible. Where a distortion has occurred, we tend to project onto those around us the archetype with which we have most difficulty (often the Shadow). Consequently there will be a tendency to repeat situations over and over (e.g. the woman who continually finds herself in close relationships with a father-figure type, or the man who continuallv finds himself at odds with women executives) until we learn how to cope with and understand our distortion.
The obverse of this is that, with awareness, one is able to accept other’s projections onto oneself without being affected bv them. Perfect balance would be achieved by using all aspects of the personality as shown below. Kindly Father and Mother are self explanatory. Ogre represents masculine anger used negatively and Destructive Mother may be wilfully destructive, or simply the smothering type that is the mother who prevents the adequate growth of her children. Youth and Princess are the more gentle, fun-loving aspects of the personality while Tramp is the eternal wanderer and Siren is the seductress or sexually active part of femininity. Hero is the self- sufficient Messianic part of the personality, while Amazon is the ‘self-sufficient’ female the efficient business woman type. Villain is the masculine part of the self who uses power for his own ends, while Competitor is die typical ‘women’s libber’ who feels that she has 110 need for men. Priest and Priestess are the powers of intuition used for the ‘greater good’, while Sorcerer uses inner power totally dispassionately and Witch uses that same power rather more emotionally and perhaps negatively.
2- More specifically the feminine archetypes arc:
This is the conventional picture of the caring mother figure, forgiving transgression and always understanding. Because much has been made of this side of femininity, until recently it was very easy to overdevelop this aspect at the expense of other sides of the personality. Destructive Mother This woman may be the ‘smothermother’ type or the frankly destructive, prohibitive mother. Often it is this aspect who either actively prevents or because of her effect on the dreamer causes difficulty in other relationships. Princess The fun-loving, innocent childlike aspect of femininity. She is totally spontaneous, but at the same time has a subjective approach to other people. Siren This type is the seductress, the sexually and sensually aware woman who still has a sense of her own importance. In dreams she often appears in historic, flowing garments as though to highlight the erotic image.
The self-sufficient woman who feels she docs not need the male: often becomes the career woman. She enjoys the cut and thrust of intellectual sparring. Competitor - She is the woman who competes with all and sundry both men and women - in an effort to prove that she is able to control her own life. Priestess - This is the highly intuitive woman who has learnt to control the flow of information and use it for the common good. She is totally at home within the inner world.
The intuitive woman using her energy to attain her own perceived ends. She is subjective in her judgement and therefore loses her discernment.
The masculine archetypes are: Kindly Father This side of the masculine is the conventional kindly father figure who is capablc of looking after the child in us. but equally of being firm and fair. Ogre This represents the angry; overbearing, aggressive and frightening masculine figure. Often this image has arisen because of the original relationship the dreamer had with their father or father figure.
The fun-loving, curious aspect of the masculine is both sensitive and creative. This is the ‘Peter Pan’ figure who has never grown up.
This is the real freedom lover, the wanderer, the gypsy. He owes no allegiance to anyone and is interested only in what lies around the next corner. Hero The hero is the man who has clcctcd to undertake his own journey of exploration. He is able to consider options and decide his next move. Often he appears as the Messianic figure in dreams. He will rescue the damsel in distress, but only as part of his growth proccss.
The villain is completely selfishly involved, not caring who he tramples on in his own search. He is often the aspect of masculinity women first meet in everyday relationships, so can remain in dream images as a threatening figure if she has not come to terms with his selfishness.
The intuitive man is the one who recognises and understands the power of his own intuition, but who usually uses it in the services of his god or gods. He may appear in dreams as the Shaman or Pagan priest.
This is the man who uses discernment in a totallv dis- passionate way for neither good nor evil, but simply because he enjoys the use of power. In his more negative aspect he is the Trickster or Master of unexpected change.
3- Spiritually, when we have access to all the archetypes, we are ready to become integrated and whole.
A number of archetypes come up in dreams again and again.
Mother image: including grandmothers, stepmothers, mother-in-laws, midwives, wise women, goddesses, the Church, universities, towns, countries, heaven, earth, oceans, fields, gardens, springs, baptismal vessels, the womb, ovens, cooking pots, cows, rabbits. All these symbols stand for childhood memories, emotional connection to our mothers, difficulties in growing up, our own character traits, and more.
Serpent biting its aum tail: conscience and ego are in need of reconciliation (this is a reference to the fundamental struggle all human beings face—the polarities of good and evil, men and women, etc.).
Mandala: this symbol of circles and quadrants represent self-realization.
(See Snake, Reptile). Sweethearts would do well to regard this as a warning against suspicion. If, however, the dreamer kills the asp, it signifies that any impending difficulty will be overcome. It is bad fortune to dream of being bitten by an asp.
Vision: Elating asparagus means that very specific wishes will be granted soon, particularly erotic desires. However, if the latter is the case, you might regret that you let your passions run away with you.

Blue skies and sunshine form one of the most fortunate of all dreams, since it foretells prosperity in money matters, happiness in domestic affairs, and the company of faithful friends. Many of the characters or elements of our dreams act quite contrary to what we wish ourself. This is why we often find it so difficult to believe all aspects of a dream are pan of our own psyche. Some drives or areas of self do act or express, despite our attempts 10 contain them. These are named autonomous complexes. Recent research into brain activity shows that in fact the brain has different layers or strata of activity. These strata often act independently of each other or of conscious will. Sensing them, as one might in a dream, might feel like meeting an opposing will. Integration with these aspects of self can be gained.

Dreams of being bankrupt symbolize that you are at the end of an unworkable, fear based pattern. Perhaps this dream is showing you that it is time to cultivate healthier patterns of manifestation and abundance.
Psychological / emotional perspective: Formerly, going bankrupt carried a great deal of stigma. Such a dream, therefore, highlighted our fears and doubts about our own abilities. In today’s climate where there is less disgrace, dreaming of bankruptcy simply indicates a problem that needs to be dealt with – not necessarily a financial one.
Bankruptcy in a dream signifies both material and spiritual losses.
If a sick person sees himself bankrupt in a dream, it means that he is approaching his death, or it could mean loss of his property or changing one’s trade into a job of lesser importance. (Also see Fraudulent bankruptcy; Slave)
If you dream you’re filing bankruptcy, it means you will do well financially. However, if you see others filing bankruptcy, it means to avoid getting involved in any business dealings that are not completely forthright.

A warning dream. Important to be more careful how you use your energies.

When I was in college, I read in a theology book that a monk on a mountain top and a man with his bottle of wine are really trying to get to the same place. That “place” translates to peace and a genuine feeling of being connected to the rest of the universe. Dreaming about being in bars and drinking may symbolize a need that you have for some type of a meaningful transformation. On the other hand, this dream may be a form of wish fulfillment, and you are escaping into a pleasurable environment where daily cares and concerns are meaningless.
If you rarely allow yourself to relax and socialize, this dream may be compensatory in nature.

Black grapes, although in reality are excellent buit in a dream they do not augur well for the one who sees them.
The reason being that Hadhrat Nooh (AS) cursed his son out of anger. Consequently, the grapes that the son had in his hand turned black. Therefore, in view of this incident, there is no benefit in seeing black grapes.
If white: one’s natural drives, feelings about coloured people; or if person is known, what you feel about them.
If black or brown: one’s own cultural feelings; same as any person’ dream.
Example: \ was in a cubicle or small toilet with a very black coloured woman. She told me there was something wrong with her vagina. She was undressed. I rubbed her vagina and we both felt enormous passion. I then awoke but couldn’t at first remember the dream. I have refrained from sexual intercourse for some weeks, as I always feel shattered/ tired afterwards. Anyway I woke very wet, yet couldn’t remember any orgasm. I could remember some question of sex as I awoke. Then I remembered the dream and continued it in fantasy. I experienced powerful urges to find a woman to have a non-committed sexual relationship with. But in the end I wanted to share my feelings with my wife, but she seemed deep asleep and unresponsive. When I slept again I dreamt I was in London, had got off one bus, but was not at any destination. I was standing about not making a move to find my direction. Then I began to look’ (Alfred C).
To understand this dream in some depth it is helpful to think of a sexual drive as a flow, like a river. As such it can be blocked, in which case it will seek an alternative route. Sexual energy or flow is not simply a mechanical thing, ihough; it is also deeply feeling in its connection with the most profound sides of human life such as parenthood and the canng and providing for young. In the history of white people a great deal of sexual frustration has arisen out of the ideas of sin and guilt in their religion.
A view arose for the white race that the black races had an easier and less frustrating relationship with the natural —which includes not only sexuality but the body as a whole, and nature also. So when Alfred dreams of the black woman, he is meeting what is natural and flowing in himself, but which he has blocked by his will because he felt shattered after sex.
The pan about the bus shows him trying to find a direction in which his sexual feelings could move satisfyingly in connection with other people.
Unfonunately, as Jung points out in Man and His Symbols, people in modern society, whether black, yellow, brown or white, have lost their sense of nature and the cosmos as being anything other than processes without consciousness or living feeling. Jung says. No river contains a spirit, no tree is the life principle of a man. no snake the embodiment of wisdom. No voice now speaks to man from stones, plants, and animals, nor does he speak to them believing they can hear.’ The importance of such dreams as Arthur’s is that it shows the passionate relationship between our personality and the pnmitive and natural.
A black person, born and bred in a modern setting, would most likely dream of a black bushman to depict their own natural drives. See identity and dreams; Africa; sex in dreams.
Vision: Flying in a blimp through clouds: it is not just you—but your plans and goals—that are up “in the clouds”—get hold of your imagination! Crashing in a blimp: the harm you will suffer is of your own making. See Flying, Zeppelin.

Bleeding without any wound means he will acquire unlawful wealth. Similarly, pus or blood gushing forth from a fountain in the body and such pus or blood staining his body also means he will earn haraam wealth. How much haraam wealth he earns depends on how much blood or pus gushes from such a fountain. But if the body does not stain it means he will be demoted from his present position.
The degree of his demotion depends on how much blood or pus gushes out.

Jung, Hadfield and several other dream researchers believe the dream process is linked with homoeostasis or self regulation (see Man and His Symbols, Jung; Dreams and Nightmares, Hadfield; Mind and Movement, Crisp). This means that the process underlying dream production helps keep psychological balance, just as homoeostasis keeps body functions balanced. Put bluntly, dreams are said to compensate for conscious attitudes and personality traits. So the coldly intellectual man would have dreams expressive of feelings and the irrational, as pan of a compensatory process; the ascetic might dream of sensuous pleasures; and the lonely unloved child dreams of affection and comfon. Although dreams can be seen as self regulatory, this narrower view of compensation is only seen in a few dreams. See computers and dreams; sleep movements; science and dreams; sleep walking.

We can enter many dreams, then with a program such as Seeker or Masterfile, easily scan through them to see the frequency of dream themes. This approach to dreams—self insight through a series of dreams—is explained by Hall in The Meaning of Dreams. Important issues in our life and development occur as frequent dream themes, and are easily seen using a computer.
The program Brainstonn (Brainstorm Software Ltd) makes cross referencing dream symbols and associated comments easy. Using this program, if one dreamt of a tree and wrote one s associations, then six months later dreamt of a tree and entered this, the program instantly reminds you of the past reference to tree and can display it. Gradually a reference base of your own dreams and comments can be built up and quickly scanned. Such comparisons help to form a personality profile of yourself or others.
To dream of living in a concentration camp implies that you prefer that situations remain constant. You are unable to acknowledge disparity and inconsistency. You need to understand that everyone, including yourself, is different and has the right to their opinions and beliefs.
If you actually lived in a concentration camp, the dream may represent feelings associated with this experience.
To dream of seeing or living in a concentration camp, indicates that you are having difficulties accepting others and their differences. Learn to appreciate diversity and the uniqueness in yourself and in others around you.
Security and safety. Tying up loose ends and knowing that everything is in its place. Connections and networks. Maintaining those ties you perceive as important. Relationships. Binding yourself to someone or something (e.g., the “ties that bind”).
Note that if the connecting device is being taken off” or opened, the above symbolism is reversed.
(Call-up; Draft; Enlist; Military service; Mobilization) A military draft in a dream means cognizance of what is good and beneficial for everyone and shows equality between the natives of the land, the poor and the rich, the close relative, the distinguished and the unknown.
Dreams of a conspiracy symbolize a guilty conscious. Perhaps you are indulging in negative thoughts that make you feel like the world is against you. Keep in mind that the entire universe is conspiring on behalf of your greatest good.
To dream of being the victim of a conspiracy, or learning about a conspiracy plotted by others, predicts that you will have social success. But if you dreamed of planning or carrying out a conspiracy against others, this suggests that you are in danger of getting into trouble through your own foolish actions. Think carefully before you act! Also see “Paranoia.”
Depth Psychology: Do you suffer from constipation in real life? Do you want to forget, “get rid oP memories from the past, “undigested” events, or experiences? If so, “work through” them— and the sooner the better! See Intestines.
Dreams of constipation symbolize that you’ve been suppressing your power, holding back your creative impulses and keeping a back log of negative energy. Perhaps you’ve being stuck in unworkable patterns, and your subconscious mind is giving you the message to vent daily, to become regular with your emotional purges.
Dreams of consumption symbolize a hunger or thirst for what you need or desire. You may be processing feelings of hoarding, clinging, or taking more than your share in fear that there is not enough to go around. Perhaps it is time for you to fill your well with nurturing, food, wealth, joy and the awareness that this universe is abundant.
To dream of being in contempt of court, denotes that you have committed business or social indiscretion and that it is unmerited.
To dream that you are held in contempt by others, you will succeed in winning their highest regard, and will find yourself prosperous and happy. But if the contempt is merited, your exile from business or social circles is intimated.
To see or use birth control in your dream, suggests that you are repressing your creativity, or holding back some aspect of yourself. This dream can also be a straightforward representation of your anxieties about pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases.
Example: ‘I was in my mother s bedroom with my teenage boyfriend. We were laying in my parents’ double bed and he was kissing my breasts. I realised we were near to making love and told him I was not on the pill. Seeing him taken aback, I told him my father has contraceptives in a nearby drawer.
The dream fades as he is trying to put one on’ (Julia). Julia, a teenager, is obviously approaching her readiness for lovemaking. She has accepted the sexual standards of her parents—their bed.
The contraceptive represents anxiety about pregnancy; sexual responsibility; sexual standards, sexually transmitted diseases.
To dream of using or seeing a contraceptive implies that you are reluctant to expose your thoughts or emotions. Perhaps you are embarrassed or afraid of how others will view your imaginative ideas and inspirations. It may also reflect fears such as pregnancy or a STD.
Tie a cord yourself, and your own efforts will achieve what you desire. Untying a cord predicts trouble in your love life. Breaking or cutting a cord is a sign that you should cut loose a relationship that has outlived its time.
Psychological / emotional perspective: A corporate environment will not necessarily have visible within it a passion for overall success and therefore suggests a competitive spirit which may or may not be in line with our own aims as individuals.
To dream of a corpse is fatal to happiness, as this dream indicates sorrowful tidings of the absent, and gloomy business prospects.
The young will suffer many disappointments and pleasure will vanish.
To see a corpse placed in its casket, denotes immediate troubles to the dreamer.
To see a corpse in black, denotes the violent death of a friend or some desperate business entanglement.
To see a battle-field strewn with corpses, indicates war and general dissatisfaction between countries and political factions.
To see the corpse of an animal, denotes unhealthy situation, both as to business and health.
To see the corpse of any one of your immediate family, indicates death to that person, or to some member of the family, or a serious rupture of domestic relations, also unusual business depression.
For lovers it is a sure sign of failure to keep promises of a sacred nature.
To put money on the eyes of a corpse in your dreams, denotes that you will see unscrupulous enemies robbing you while you are powerless to resent injury.
If you only put it on one eye you will be able to recover lost property after an almost hopeless struggle.
For a young woman this dream denotes distress and loss by unfortunately giving her confidence to designing persons.
For a young woman to dream that the proprietor of the store in which she works is a corpse, and she sees while sitting up with him that his face is clean shaven, foretells that she will fall below the standard of perfection in which she was held by her lover.
If she sees the head of the corpse falling from the body, she is warned of secret enemies who, in harming her, will also detract from the interest of her employer. Seeing the corpse in the store, foretells that loss and unpleasantness will offset all concerned. There are those who are not conscientiously doing the right thing. There will be a gloomy outlook for peace and prosperous work.
See Murder, Death, Dying. Disconnected personality or emotions. Warning signal: You are carrying something foreign—something that is dead—around with you.
If these dreams appear frequently and are accompanied by fear, it would be a good idea to consult a therapist. This is a frequent dream among women when they are oppressed. On the other hand, the dream symbol may also suggest putting an end to something, letting go of it.
Dreams of the corpse of someone you know represent the completion of a relationship you once had with them, and perhaps the end of a particular pattern of relating. Dreams of a corpse can also represent a loss of passion for being alive. You may be moving through a heartbreak that leaves you feeling dead inside, realizing that you can either give into depression or make a decision to live life more fully and courageously than ever before. See Death and Goddess Persephone.
For a person to dream of being corpulent, indicates to the dreamer bountiful increase of wealth and pleasant abiding places.
To see others corpulent, denotes unusual activity and prosperous times.
If a man or woman sees himself or herself looking grossly corpulent, he or she should look well to their moral nature and impulses. Beware of either concave or convex telescopically or microscopically drawn pictures of yourself or others, as they forbode evil.
(Affinity; Concord; Likeness) Exchanging correspondence between two friends in a dream means longevity, for it meansjoining two destinies and it means comfort and happiness each one gets from his friend.
Psychological / emotional perspective: Corruption denotes a tainting or spoiling, particularly of our integrity, so any such image signifies something which is imperfect or has been made so by a negative influence.
If you dreamed of attending a costume party, where everyone was in costume except you, this is a warning against false friends.
To dream that you are wearing a costume, signifies that you are putting on a false face toward others. Your true self is not being revealed and you are not being completely honest with people around you.
Dreams of a couple represents your feelings, attitudes and opinions about relationships, partnerships, romance, love and marriage. Perhaps you are working through obstacles to intimacy and love. See Marriage.
To dream about being in a couple suggests strong feelings carried over from a waking relationship. However, if you’re not in a love relationship in real life, this dream means you are not getting enough affection in your daily life. Hug someone today! To dream of seeing a couple in love or expressing love to each other, indicates much success ahead for you.
If the couple you dreamed about was fighting, you may be unwilling to admit your own problems. You need to take more responsibility for solving your own dramas in real life.
Bad, bad, will be the fate of the woman who dreams of being courted. She will often think that now he will propose, but often she will be disappointed. Disappointments will follow illusory hopes and fleeting pleasures.
For a man to dream of courting, implies that he is not worthy of a companion.
Few dreams are, by themselves, problem solving or creative.
The few exceptions are usually very clear. Example: ‘My mother-in-law died of cancer. I had watched the whole progression of her illness, and was very upset by her death. Shortly after she died the relatives gathered and began to sort through her belongings to share them out. That was the climax of my upset and distress, and I didn’t want any part of this sorting and taking her things. That night I dreamt I was in a room with all the relatives. They were sorting her things, and I felt my waking distress. Then my mother-in-law came into the room. She was very real and seemed happy. She said for me not to be upset as she didn’t at all mind her relatives taking her things. When I woke from the dream all the anxiety and upset had disappeared. It never returned (told to author dunng a talk given to the Housewives Register in Ilfracombe).
Although in any collection of dreams such clearcut problem solving is fairly rare, nevertheless the basic function in dreams appears to be problem solving.
The proof of this lies in research done in dream withdrawal. As explained in the entry science, sleep and dreams, subjects are woken up as they begin to dream, therefore denying them dreams. This quickly leads to disorientation and breakdown of normal functioning, showing that a lot of problem solving occurs in dreams, even though it may not be as obvious as in the example. This feature of dreaming can be enhanced to a marked degree by processing dreams and arriving at insights into the information they contain. This enables old problems to be cleared up and new information and attitudes to be brought into use more quickly. Through such active work one becomes aware of the self, which Carl Jung describes as a centre, but which we might think of as a synthesis of all our experience and being. Gaining insight and allowing the self entrance into our waking affairs, as M L. Von Franz says in Man and His Symbols, gradually produces a wider and more mature personality’ which emerges, and by degrees becomes effective and even visible to others’.
The function of dreams may well be described as an effort on the part of our life process to support, augment and help mature waking consciousness.
A study of dreams suggests that the creative forces which are behind the growth of our body are also inextricably connected with psychological development. In fact, when the process of physical growth stops, the psychological growth continues.
If this is thwarted in any way, it leads to frustration, physical tension and psychosomatic and eventually physical illness.
The integration of experience.
which dreams are always attempting, if successful cannot help but lead to personal growth. But it is often frozen by the individual avoiding the growing pains’, or the discomfon of breaking through old concepts and beliefs.
Where there is any attempt on the pan of our conscious personality to co-operate with this, the creative aspect of dreaming emerges. In fact anything we are deeply involved in, challenged by or attempting, we will dream about in a creative way. Not only have communities like the American Indians used dreams in this manner—to find better hunting, solve community problems, find a sense of personal life direction— but scientists, writers, designers and thousands of lay people have found very real information in dreams After all, through dreams we have personal use of the greatest computer ever produced in the history of the world—the human brain.
1- In Genesis 41, the story of Pharaoh’s dream is told—the seven fat cows and the seven thin cows. This dream was creative in that, with Joseph’s interpretation, it resolved a national problem where famine followed years of plenty. It may very well be an example of gathered information on the history of Egypt being in the mind of Pharaoh, and the dream putting it together in a problem solving way. See dream process as computer.
2- William Blake dreamt his dead brother showed him a new way of engraving copper. Blake used the method successfully.
3- Otto Leowi dreamt of how to prove that nervous impulses were chemical rather than electncal. This led to his Nobel prize.
4- Friedrich Kekule tned for years to define the structure of benzene. He dreamt of a snake with its tail in its mouth, and woke to realise this explained the molecular formation of the benzene ring. He was so impressed he urged colleagues, ‘Gentlemen, leam to dream.’
5- Hilprecht had an amazing dream of the connection between two pieces of agate which enabled him to translate an ancient Babylonian inscription.
6- Elias Howe faced the problem of how to produce an effective sewing machine.
The major difficulty was the needle. He dreamt of natives shaking spears with holes in their points. This led to the invention of the Singer sewing machine.
7- Robert Louis Stevenson claims to have dreamt the plot of many of his stories.
8- Albert Einstein said that during adolescence he dreamt he was riding a sledge. It went faster and faster until it reached the speed of light.
The stars began to change into amazing patterns and colours, dazzling and beautiful. His meditation on that dream throughout the years led to the theory of relativity.
To approach our dreams in order to discover their creativity, first decide what problematic or creative aspect of your life needs ‘dream power’. Define what you have already leamt or know about the problem. Write it down, and from this clarify what it is you want more insight into.
If this breaks down into several issues, choose one at a time. Think about the issue and pursue it as much as you can while awake. Read about it, ask people’s opinions, gather information. This is all data for the dream process.
If the question still needs further insight, before going to sleep imagine you are putting the question to your internal store of wisdom, computer, power centre, or whatever image feels right.
For some people an old being who is neither exclusively man nor woman is a working image.
In the morning note down whatever dream you remember. It does not matter if the dream does not appear to deal with the question; Elias Howe’s native spears were an outlandish image, but nevertheless contained the information he needed. Investigate the dream using the techniques given in the entry dream processing. Some problems take time to define, so use the process until there is a resolution.
If it is a major problem, it may take a year or so; after all, some resolutions need restructuring of the personality, because the problem cannot disappear while we still have the same attitudes and fears. See secret of the universe dreams; dream processing.
Emotional or mental handicap. In this dream an important part of the shadow is expressed: your own weakness and neediness, for example. This dream symbol often appears when you are feeling overly important and are tending toward arrogance. Often it is a challenge to become more responsible, compassionate, and helpful. In addition, the image of the cripple is also related to Beggar, which may point either to becoming more humble or to greed and a hunger for possessions. See Illness, Crutch.
Vision: Seeing or being a cripple: you have a lot of work to do on yourself before you will be “healthy” (emotionally and morally). However, the dream also indicates that help is on the way! Taking care of a cripple: you are caring for and feeling bad about an unhappy person. See Invalid.
Depth Psychology: The cripple represents the compassion you have for other people. It also is an indication of how much you depend on other people, or that you are in need of help.
Dreams of being crippled or seeing someone who is crippled represents injured emotions, and that you are relating to yourself as your wounds, as opposed to relating to yourself as a whole and complete being. Perhaps you are suppressing your -expression and feeling a sense of diminished -worth. Consider the area of the body that you dreamed was crippled. See Body.
If your dream featured a handicapped person or persons, you can expect an appeal for help from a relative or friend. You would be well advised to give the assistance, as it will eventually turn out to be “good karma” for you (as you sow, so shall you reap).
If the dream involved being crippled yourself, you are confronted with many challenges and need to utilize your full potential.
The good news is, you can rely on getting whatever help you may be needing.
Planting in a dream means that one’s wife will become pregnant. Ifone sees himselfplowing someone else’s land in a dream, it means a dispute between the two.
A crop that is consumed by fire in a dream means famine and drought.
If one sees himself walking through green fields in a dream, it means striving to do good, charitable deeds and leading a devout life not knowing whether his deeds will be accepted by God Almighty or not. As for a married person, planting the fields in a dream means that he will conceive a son, and for an unwed person it means that he will get married, while for a businessman in a dream, it means increase in his profits. Seeing a green crop in a dream means longevity, while a dried crop signifies the near end of one’s life. Plantingwheat in a dream means charity, and it will multiply one’s reward. Spike of grain or ears of grain mean a misfortune or miseries. Seeing barley corns in their fields in a dream means spiritual awakening and a conscious endeavor to do good. Ifone recognizes his crop in a dream, then they represent his worldly and spiritual deeds. (Also see Farm; Harvest; Planting)
Dreams of a crop circle represent a direct message from your higher self, and reflects your awareness of higher life forms. Your dream is telling you to pay attention to the mystical and magical aspects of life that show up in the most mundane places and situations. See Geometry.
You see ripe crops: you’ll be blessed with long lasting abundance • You receive crops: you’ll receive your fortune • You hold crops in your hands: your financial future is secure • You’re covered with crops: you will be a
Gives gender - specific: To some extent the interpretation depends on what kind of cup is depicted.
An ordinary teacup or mug for instance focuses on mundane matters and – for a woman – her feelings about domestic concerns. In a man’s dream the emphasis is more likely to be on his feelings about his wife, family and happiness.
Psychological / emotional perspective: Various types of cupboard can appear in dreams.
A wardrobe suggests a period of transition and, because it houses our clothes, how we deal with our self-image, whereas a larder represents our ability to preserve or conserve our stores of energy. Finding a hidden cupboard suggests rediscovering something we may have forgotten. Opening a cupboard and finding it bigger than expected suggests available opportunities.
Material aspects: Clearing out a cupboard indicates that we may have to put our lives in order. Articles falling out of a cupboard suggest that we may be overstretched and / or overstretching ourselves.
Memory, resources; different roles you play or attitudes and emotions expressed if wardrobe, hidden memories and emotions, such as skeleton in the cupboard, womb. Open, closed or trapped in cupboard: whether we are ‘open or closed’ to other people; trapped in old feelings, sense of isolation.
Symbol: The god Cupid is always an erotic symbol. Vision + Depth Psychology: Cupid is an ancient dream motif. Cupid shooting an arrow at someone: stay out of the affairs of other people. Cupid shooting an arrow at you: a new romance is right around the corner and, while not permanent, will be a flirtatious, sexual adventure.
(one who draws blood from others, as a medical procedure) : interpreted upon 8 sides: delivery of a trust, book of stipulations / signs & Guardianship, evils & preordained friends & Sunna & isolation. It depends [upon whether] an abscess / sore appears, or [the spot is] amenable / complies. Also contingent on [if] the cupper was a man who wastes away the matters of people by his hands.
(Sacrification; A medicinal process ofblood letting) Cupping in a dream means signing an agreement under pressure, committing oneself beyond one’s ability to comply, recovering from an illness, payment of debts, paying alimony to one’s wife and children, loss of a business or burying a treasure.
If cupping is administered but no blood comes from it in the dream, it represents buried monies that one cannot find. Cupping in a dream also means silence, desistance or abstaining from reply.
If the cupper is unknown it means that he will be subjected to a condition or he will be made to guard a trust. But if the cupper is a known person it means he will lose a portion of his wealth or belonging.s
Dreams of cutting and pasting symbolize that you are editing, organizing and rearranging your thoughts and maybe even your life. You are in the process of discerning who and what to keep and what and who to eliminate.
To see a damson tree in full leaves loaded with luscious fruit shows you will get your reward with the inheritance you receive. Should you eat of the plums you will have sorrow and grief as well as loss.
If the tree is misshapen then it foretells of a time of domestic unrest.
(Jam; Paste; Spread) In a dream, date paste represents a lawful and pleasant wealth which is collected from different sources. Eating date paste in a dream means taking a cure for an illness. (Also see Dates)
1- Dead people we have known appearing in dreams usually refer back to strong emotions we have had about those people, whether they are negative or positive.
For instance, there may be unresolved anger or guilt we still hold and the only wav we can deal with it is within a dream sequence.
2- Memories can remain buried for years and often when people who have died appear in dreams, we are being reminded of different times, places or relationships which will help us to deal with present situations.
3- To dream of dead people may suggest a link of a spiritual nature to our long-forgotten ancestors.
To dream of dead people may suggest a link of a spiritual nature to our long-forgotten ancestors, and may deal with family patterns of belief. Loved ones who have died appearing in dreams show that the veil between this world and the next is very thin.
Psychological / emotional perspective: Memories can remain buried for years and often when people who have died appear in dreams, we are being reminded of different times, places or relationships which will help us to deal with present situations.
To see dead people in your dream, forewarns that you are being influenced by negative people and are hanging around the wrong crowd. This dream may also be a way for you to resolve your feelings with those who have passed on.
If you spoke with someone who is dead, you will soon hear very good news.
Example: ‘My husband’s mother, no longer alive, came and slid her arms carefully under me and lifted me up. I shouted “Put me down! Put me down! I don’t want to go yet.” She carefully lowered me on to the bed and disappeared’ (EH). Most dreams in which dead people appear are expressive of our attempts to deal with our feelings, guilt or anger in connection with the person who died, or our own feelings about death. In the example the dreamer is feeling fear about being carried off by death.
When someone close to us dies we go through a period of change from relating to them as an external reality, to meeting and accepting them as alive in our memories and inner life. In the next example the man has not only come to terms with his mother’s and his own death, but also found this inner reality. Example: A dark grey sugar loaf form materialised. This pillar lightened in shade as I watched. It didn’t move. I began to think it was Mrs Molten who died in 1956.
The feeling grew stronger but still the colour lightened. Then it bent over and kissed my head. In that instant I knew it was my mother.
An ecstatic joy and happiness such as I have never known on earth suffused me. That happiness remained constantly in mind for the next few days’ (Mr M).
This dream suggests that the dreamer is losing control. In a decapitation there is a dramatic and violent separation of the head from the body. Under normal circumstances the mind controls and directs the body. This dream suggests that the dreamer may be under the control of his bodily drives and may be separated from rational thoughts and feelings. Disassociation may be occurring in regard to some behavior or issue in life. However, this dream may have other meanings. This includes excessive concern about punishment and indicates that there may be severe pressure and anxiety in the dreamer’s life.
Vision: Seeing your own decapitation: either illness or shame and embarrassment.
If you are decapitating somebody else: you arc possibly the winner in a conflict or a legal argument. Watching someone you know being decapitated: you are losing a person you love. Watching a stranger being decapitated: you might either defeat an adversary or create new enemies. See Execution, Head.
Depth Psychology: Decapitation is a sign that you are revising your present attitude about a specific event. Are you being ruled too much by your head? Maybe you should start trusting your intuition more and living accordingly!
A symbol of the unconscious. It is a suggestion to become more alert and more clear; or have you been engaged in (self-) deception lately? If that is the case, this symbol shows that you are already more conscious, more alert, and more clear.
Points to sexual inhibition, angst. Who has betrayed whom ?
If you dream of being deceived by someone, this represents your growing distrust for that person. Alternatively, it suggests that you are no longer as confident in yourself as you used to be.
To dream of being deceived by your romantic partner is a warning that your disagreeable attitude will turn valued friendships away.
If you deceive someone in your dream, it means you are trying to deceive yourself into believing in something that goes against your values. Ask yourself what are you hiding from yourself or from others.
To see something decomposing in your dream signifies the degradation of a situation or circumstance. Something in your life is falling apart - but remember, unhealthy things must fall aside in order for new and healthier things to enter your life.
Usually we live on the surface of our mind. In sleep we dive down deeper but lose our sense of self.
If we maintain some awareness in these deeps of the mind, it is somewhat like snorkelling in deep sea; we realise what immense and unbelievable depths lie beneath us. Dreams often portray this as depth—a hole, deep water, a chasm; space; our non-verbal life in the womb, or early childhood, which is remembered as patterns of feeling reaction rather than verbal utterance. In the depths we may find gems, skeletons, archaeological objects, and these relate to the memory of our evolutionary past, family influences we carry within us unknown. Deep cuts: suggests a hurt which penetrates us; or emotions which affect us powerfully. Idioms: in deep water, in the deep end; deeply troubled; deeply hurt.
Psychological / emotional perspective: We may be trying to understand archetypal patterns that have not been recognizable in the past. There is information available to us which we can only understand through being able to appreciate our own emotional depths.
Material aspects: When we dream of the deep we are usually considering past family influences of which we may not be consciously aware. Patterns of behaviour are often repeated in families and it takes some dredging through family stories and myths to have us recognize such patterns.
(Fryer) In a dream, deep frying signifies evil, adversities, arguments, problems, failing to do one’s prayers, following one’s mind, passion and desires, or backbiting and slandering people. (Also see Frying)
Example: ‘I was leaving some people, like at a junior school. Some of the children tried to detain me, with the attitude that I was defying teacher’s authority, and they restrained me with the rules they restrained themselves with. I broke free and walked off’ (Timothy). As in the example, a breaking away from old or habitual patterns of behaviour, leaving a situation, such as a relationship, a financial set-up or work; the struggle to become independent as in leaving home. Sometimes desire to get away from responsibility or difficulties. Can also refer to death, perhaps when we see a spouse walking away from us, or departing on a journey. This is not necessarily a prediction, but confronting the situation. Idioms: new departure, the departed (dead); leave in the lurch; leave someone to it, left holding the baby.
Shopping for clothing in a department store reflects shopping for a new attitude or image of yourself Shopping at Saks Fifth Avenue, for instance, might represent adopting upper-class values and attitudes about style and image. Trying on clothes at Macy’s may represent putting on the attitudes of the middle class. And going through the racks at Wal- Mart reflects concerns about getting the best bargain for your money, with little regard for your image.
Formerly all departures were interpreted as death. Nowadays the symbolism is much more of a new beginning. We are leaving our old life in order to undertake something new. When someone in our lives leaves us, we may dream of departures and the grief that parting causes. In certain circumstances, to dream of wanting to leave but not being able to suggests that there is still further work to be done.
To be conscious of the time of departure might suggest that we are aware of a time limit within an area of our lives. You may also like to consult the individual entries for airport and departing.
(Mortgage; Security; Trust) Depositing something with someone in a dream means trusting him with a secret. Entrusting something to a deceased person in a dream means entrusting someone who can keep a secret, or it could mean that he will entrust someone with an object or money that will be lost, or it could mean confiding to someone who cannot be trusted. Entrusting one’s wife with something in a dream means conceiving a child. Ifshe gives him back what he gave her in the dream, it means that her pregnancy will not reach fruition. (Also see Pawn)
Dreams of being depressed represent that you are venting out unhealed emotional wounds and -punishment that have been dampening your spirit. This dream is giving you the message that you’ve been suppressing your passion, and it is time for a change.
(Dejection; Melancholy; Sadness) In a dream, depression signifies the opposite. That is to sayjoy, happiness and celebrations. However, ifone sees his friends depressed in a dream, it means suffering the same in wakefulness. Depression in a dream also denotes an illness or sufferings caused by one’s own family, or it could mean imposition, forfeiture of business, cancellation of interest receivable, or perhaps it could mean business stagnation. Should any of that be true in wakefulness, then witnessing such a depression in a dream could mean relief. Depression in a dream could mean either happiness or distress.
One hundred and forty dreams were collected from a group of patients suffering depression.
The same number of dreams were collected from people similar in age and social background, but not suffering depression.
The dreams were given code numbers, mixed and given to an independent judge. He was asked to look for any evident themes of self punishment, such as ‘I was waiting for my friends all night but they never turned up’, ‘my fiance married somebody else’. Such self punishing themes were found to occur with greater frequency in the depressives’ dreams.
Vision: The depths are usually a symbol of your deepest feelings or your unconscious. Sometimes they provide insight into the deepest layers of your character. But they might also reflect profound experiences from the past. You will know which applies to you.
(Despondency; Disheartened; Discouraged; Resign) To experience desperation or to loose hope in God Almighty in a dream signifies polytheism or attempting to commit suicide or committing a sin, though the consequence of such state in a dream may eventually turn positive in wakefulness. Despair in a dream also means escaping from a great danger, or engaging in the activities of the dwellers of hell-fire. (Also see Uptight)
Dreams of a desperate housewife or of the show, “Desperate Housewives” denote your connection to the dark side of femininity: vindictiveness, competition, beauty used as a weapon, and victimization. See Drama Queen and Karma.
