Bird Flying In House | Dream Interpretation

The keywords of this dream: Bird Flying House

BIRD

(see also entries for particular birds: e.g. Eagle, Falcon.

(1) A bird may represent the sweet directness and simplicity’ of Nature, unpretentious and contented £is-ness\ In this case, your dream may be telling you w’hat you need to make room for in your life and in your fundamental attitudes. For example, the bird may be seen (or, indeed, heard) as calling you to an uncomplicated but holistic state of being, in which consciousness and body - spirit and matter - are completely attuned. This call will undoubtedly come if consciousness (brain) has become detached from the more primitive or primal layers of being (body, instinct. Nature).

(2) It may be that the bird signifies an entry into, or an invitation to enter, realms of spiritual power (symbolized by the sky). (In religious traditions that focus on a supreme sky-god — as in pre-modem Siberia - there is invariably a shaman, a person who is regarded as maintaining order and well-being in the human community’ and in the individual by maintaining a proper communication between the human wrorld and the spirit world (see also Spirit(s).) The shaman is said to fly - to make contact w ith spirits or the skv-god himself - and his emblem is often a bird, sometimes w orn in the form of a bird-mask.) See also Flying. Shaman.

(3) Because of its association with the shaman figure, a bird may symbolize some energy or function w’ithin your psyche that can bring vou healing or w holeness or balance.

(4) If the bird in the dream is taking wing, ask yourself if you, or some part of you, needs to take wing. Perhaps you are beginning to feel

shackled by circumstances. Perhaps it is a particular component of your unconscious psyche that needs to be given its freedom - that is, accepted into consciousness and incorporated into your (external) life. (Sky is often a symbol of consciousness, contrasted with earth or sea, which may be symbols of the unconscious.)

(5) If the bird is descending from the sky to you, you may need to consider another piece of bird symbolism. In mythology a bird, or a winged god (like the Roman Mercury), may serve as a messenger from the supreme deity. In psychological terms this may mean your dream is letting you know that your unconscious is offering you some great truth, some recipe for your healing, a solution of your problem(s), or the key to a new and fuller life.

Sometimes such a messenger bird is associated with the sun. The sun is a natural symbol of the source of truth (Might’) and of new life.

(6) Possibly, a bird may be a sexual symbol. Freud saw it as a symbol of the male penis; and for men who are accustomed to speaking of attractive women as ‘birds’, a bird in a dream may presumably have sexual meaning.

(7) A black bird, in addition to representing in a general way something in your unconscious, may symbolize the feminine in a negative aspect. See also Woman.

(8) Carrion birds — vultures, crows, ravens and the like — are associated with death. Dreams do sometimes predict an event in the outside world, but such dreams are rare.

If death is referred to in a dream it is more likely to express your anxiety about death - your own or someone else’s.

Alternatively, the unconscious mav be telling you that some phase of your life, some habitual attachment or negative attitude, has gone on long enough, and the time is ripe for a change. In other words, the dream is calling for the death of something within you, to make way for a new development in your life and / or in your personality. See also Vulture.... FLYING

(1) Dreams of flying may derive from childhood enjoyment of swings and see-saws and represent a longing for the freedom and joy associated with (a happy) childhood.

(2) Flying may symbolize liberation — for example, getting rid of (self- imposed) shackles or irrational taboos stemming from childhood experiences.

(3) Flying may symbolize over-reaching yourself. In this case, your dream is probably warning you against projects that are too grandiose or not in accord with your fundamental constitution. This may mean that, in entertaining wild fantasies, you have actually overlooked your real capacities and gifts (remember Icarus!). See also Falling, section (1).

(4) Sky may symbolize consciousness, intellect, spirituality. A dream of flying may therefore mean cither that you should extend the range of your consciousness (e.g. by bringing up unconscious contents into your conscious mind, or taking a less wordly view of life) or that you should give your previously neglected instinctual, intuitional or feeling functions a fuller role in your conscious life. The latter would be more likely to apply if you are an intellectual and if the dream includes some fear of falling.

(5) Are you looking at the world below in a detached, uninvolved, unemotional way, so that your problems dissolve, or your values undergo radical transformation? If so, the message is clear.

(6) Since sky is an age-old symbol of God or transcendence, flying may be a symbol of coming closer to your authentic or true self, or to the meaning of (vour) life. See also God(dess).

(7) If you dream of flying fish, or a dolphin shooting out of the water, the meaning is probably that something in your unconscious wants to penetrate your conscious mind and / or to be allowed its proper place in your conscious life.

If you dream of a pig (or an elephant, say) flying, this may mean some despised and rejected ‘animal’ part of you is now - or, much more likely, needs to be - integrated into your conscious life.

(8) For flying saucers, see UFOs; or, if the saucers are flying in the kitchen, see Fight(ing).... A Dictionary of Dream Symbols

HOUSE

(1) A house or other building may be a symbol of yourself. Going upstairs may mean going into the ‘head’ - that is, the layer of mind where (rational) thinking takes place. Cellars may represent the unconscious. Different parts of the house may be of different ages, the modem representing the conscious ego, the oldest the deep layers of the unconscious - what Jung called the ‘collective unconscious’.

If the house feels cramped, this might indicate frustration. Is some part of you not yet developed, not yet integrated into consciousness? What is keeping this or that instinct or emotion repressed?

If the house is cracked or crumbling, this could indicate either anxiety concerning your life, or the breaking down of an old image of yourself, to give way to a more accurate or larger view of your potential.

(2) A house may represent your self-image: how you see yourself, or how you want to be seen by the world, or what you want from life.

(3) If the house is your parental home, what you feel in the dream may say a lot about your childhood feelings - about your parents, for instance.

BIRDS

Example: ‘I was standing outside the house of my teens, with my mother. She had a very young bird on a long ribbon and the bird was flying very high in the sky’ (Pauline).

The life cycle of a bird has so many similarities with important human stages of maturity we frequently use it to represent oneself, as in the example. Pauline uses the bird to depict her own urge to be independent of her mother’s influence, opinions, likes, dislikes and decisions. Later in the dream her mother hands Pauline the ribbon to hold, suggesting an offer of independence. As soon as she lets go of the ribbon, a huge black bird attacks the ribboned one.

The ribbons are a reference to Pauline’s own girlhood. When she lets go of her girlhood, moving towards independent womanhood, she feels threatened by the internalised negative side of her mother, such as her possessiveness—the black bird. Internalised means all the standards, self controls she learned from her life with her mother, which she now carries within her even if absent from her mother.

General: Imagination; intuition, the mind; thoughts, our spiritual longings; expanded awareness—in this form, perhaps a large bird which can fly high. Because wider—or spiritual—awareness means looking beyond the usual boundaries of what we see, this may be painful. Hatching from the egg; our birth and infancy.

The nest: home; family environment; security, even the womb. Leaving the nest: gaining independence. Making a nest: home building; parental urges. Flying: rising above something; independence; freedom; self expression.

Freud said the bird represents the male phallus, and flying means the sexual act. Many languages use the word bird’ to mean woman. In Italy it alludes to penis.

The bird is also used to denote the sense of death and survival. Bluebird: especially represents the spint or soul after death. Baby bird: our own childhood, as in the following example.

The old lady is once more reference to the mother, to whom the bird is first connected before moving on to the difficulty of independence. Example: An old lady made room for me to sit at the end of one of the three seats of a bus. As we drove away a very large chicken-size baby bird flew in. It had short stubby wings and yellow down, but flew expenly. I believe it first landed on the lady and chirped squeakily. But in its squeaks it actually spoke, saying it had lost its mother. It sounded as if it were crying (Andrew). Idioms: charm the birds from the trees; a bird told me; bird has flown; bird in the hand, bird of ill omen; free as a bird, odd bird. ... FLYING

Example: During childhood I leamt to fly in a long sequence of dreams. Each linked very clearly to the last. I would go to the nearby churchyard and in the beginning I would run along as fast as I could then jump and just manage to extend the jump by a great effon of will. In subsequent practices I managed gradually to extend the jump for many yards; and eventually I could skim along indefinitely.

The next stage though was to extend my height, and this took enormous effort of will and body. I made active swimming motions and climbed, but only held altitude with great and constant concentration. With further practice still, this clumsy mode of flying was left behind as I leamt to use pure motivation or will to lift me into the air and carry me easily and gracefully wherever I wished. At this stage my flying was swift, mobile and without struggle’ (Jason V).

The example illustrates how much will, effort and learning can be involved in flying in dreams. This aspect of flying connects with the gaining of independence and the expression of one’s potential. We are all born into a certain paradigm or ‘reality’. At one time, part of the ‘reality’ for most Britons was that anyone without a white skin was a heathen or savage. At other times the reality’ has been that anything heavier than air could not fly. Meteors did not exist because theory discounted them. And so on.

To break free of such paradigms and from the gravity’ or hold our parental and social authority has on us to find a measure of emotional and intellectual freedom, takes the son of will, effort and learning depicted.

Flying expresses also the dealing with our internal influences which hold us down, such as self doubt, anxiety, depression.

Example: ‘I was flying. I felt nervous at first that I would fall down, but not afraid. I soon became confident and felt very happy and wanted the sensation to continue. I was lying over a building, could have been a small church, crematorium or graveyard but did not feel afraid or upset. When I woke I lay in bed and tried very hard to keep the feelings with me and, for reasons unknown, I do not wish to forget it’ (Mrs SM). In flying, Mrs SM is finding a way to look at death—the graveyard—which gives her a different viewpoint, a different feeling reaction to it, and she doesn’t want to lose that precious newly learnt view. In their maturing process some peo- pie learn to see their thoughts and emotions as things they expenence rather than things they are, and this brings the sort of new viewpoint seen in the example.

Example: ‘I was in a building with a group of people. I was being chased and suddenly flew up in the air to escape my pursuers’ (Michael O). Learning independence, and the ability to make decisions despite what others feel, may be done by ignoring our own feelings. This may be achieved by always keeping busy; never having quiet moments alone; filling empty periods with entertainment or company; smoking, drinking alcohol, taking sedatives or tranquillisers; ngid positive thinking. Then, as Michael does in his dream, we fly from issues we are pursued by instead of resolving them. This may lead us to the extremes of being either rigidly materialistic, or as rigidly ethereal. In either case we lose contact with everyday human issues, and may begin to have the escape-type flying dream, or an out of body experience.

Example: 41 knew I could fly. I picked up one of the young women I felt love for and flew with her.’ Laughingly I felt like superman, and flew easily’ (Simon W). Flying alone occurs most frequently, showing the independent aspect of flying. But because it often involves our positive feelings of pleasure, flying may depict our sexuality, as above, especially aspects of it expressing freedom from social norms and restraints.

Example: ‘I was floating atop a tree near houses and a rising walkway. I was saying to people around the tree that I had found something wonderful. Reaching out my hand I told them they could join me if they accepted this possibility in themselves. Some thought it was a publicity campaign, but were enjoying the spectacle.

A few reached out and were immediately with me, until there were about six of us, men and women. We joined hands, experiencing a most amazing sense of well-being. Then we slowly and effortlessly flew to a great height, leaving a trail of coloured smoke which could be seen for miles. It was to demonstrate the triumph of the human spirit. We then descended and were going somewhere else to show others’ (Margareta H). Transcendence is also depicted by flying.

The tree is Margareta’s personal life. She is at the growing tip, transcending, leaving behind her past. Being high in flight, on a hill or mountain also represents the action of seeing our life as a whole, having a sense of our overall direction and destiny, our essential self. This frequently gives rise to the drive to give of one’s best to others, as Margareta does in leaving behind a sign—the spire of colour.

Some researchers believe flying dreams often precede lucid dreams. See lucid dreams; out of body experience. See also Hill; mountain. Idioms: fly by night, flying high; send flying.... A Guide to Dreams and Sleep Experiences

HOUSE, BUILDINGS

A house nearly always refers to oneself, depicting one’s body and attributes of personality. Thus if we take a large house with its many functional rooms, the library would represent the mind, the bathroom cleansing or renewal of good feelings, the bedrooms one’s sexuality or intimacy, the roof one’s protectiveness or ‘coping mechanisms’. Large public buildings such as hospitals, factories, blocks of flats, depict particular functions suggested by their nature. But of course, if the house or building has a personal connection—the house you live in, or place you have worked—then you need to define what are the essential feelings about such. Or see dream processing.

If a house or building has a quality of some other type of construction, such as a library feeling like a factory, or a house a church, both aspects should be accepted as important. ... A Guide to Dreams and Sleep Experiences

BIRDS

Birds are messengers, and a dream with birds in it may be trying to get you to recognize some information that is flying around in your consciousness, just waiting to be recognized. Birds also connect with a vantage point and the ability to see farther by virtue of their unobstructed view of things. They can also fly directly to a location without the impediments of obstacles on the ground.

A dream with a bird or birds in it may be asking you what you would see if you could see farther than your limited viewpoint allows and where you would go if you weren’t hindered by perceived obstacles in front of you.

FLYING

You are ascending and rising above mundane life. You may also be avoiding something on the ground. This is one of the most common universal dream images. One of the most delightful aspects of dreaming, this cross- cultural symbol means that you are rising above everything that is on the ground. Since this can be a wonderful sensation, it is often associated with intense feelings of a positive nature.

A flying dream could indicate strong feelings of freedom and bliss, which can represent moving toward a higher state of awareness or connection with spirit. It can also provide a broader perspective on your life by virtue of giving you a higher vantage point. However, it should not be overlooked that this very experience can be used as a defense by the unconscious.

When this dream appears, it begs the following question:

Is there anything that is being avoided or overlooked by rising above the conflict or simply not being grounded in reality?... Complete Dictionary of Dreams

HOUSE

Anything that is a home in a dream connects to your sense of self.

A house is a clear reflection of identity at the time of the dream.

A house from your past and / or childhood relates to your identity as it was generated at the time you lived there.

A house from your imagination also relates to your sense of self, and you must use the context of the dream to inform you of the meaning to associate with it.

A mansion is an expanded sense of self, while something small or more rundown is asking you to look at issues of self-worth.

A house under construction is the self being built up, whereas one that is being destroyed takes on the view of deconstruction or reinvention.

LIGHTHOUSE

You are finally being guided through confusing territory, and while you may not quite know where you are going, you are at least experiencing some emotional safety.

A lighthouse is located on a shoreline and provides perspective in an otherwise concealed landscape. During a fog, the lighthouse emits both a visual and an audio clue to allow travelers to navigate through what would otherwise be dangerous territory. To get to the core of this symbol, we begin with where a lighthouse is located.

The ocean represents the deep emotional unconscious parts of the human psyche. Land is what is conscious and within our awareness.

The shoreline is where these two vastly different landscapes meet. Because they are so very different in nature, the boundary that exists between land and sea can be a strange and sometimes treacherous place. This is true of the shoreline, where the land meets the sea in the real world. In the world of symbolic meaning, these two dichotomous elements of the human condition interact with each other in a dramatic and sometimes violent way.

The lighthouse keeps you safe in this dangerous territory.... Complete Dictionary of Dreams

WAREHOUSE

You have some unfinished business or may be trying to postpone something. You also may be preparing to take action on something soon, but it is not yet time. Warehouses are places where we gather and store items that will later be distributed for their intended use. What is key to this symbol is that the storage is temporary—what is kept in a warehouse is eventually going to be moved somewhere else. In a dream, a warehouse is a symbol of change. In the arc of any transformation, a warehouse points to the middle of a greater shift—a point at which resources are gathered but have not quite yet arrived at their final destination.... BIRD

Songbirds are a universal symbol for happy news, especially if they are brightly colored and/or singing.

If they are flying, then your life is going to definitely take a turn for the better. Dead or injured birds, however, indicate either a halt to or a need to revise some of your plans for the future.

Birds of prey represent a warning: Someone is trying to take unfair advantage of you. See “Eagle”, “Falcon”, “Hawk”.

Birds’ eggs in a nest indicate a new life full of hope - or this could possibly be a pun meaning money coming. In other words, you’ll soon acquire a “nest egg.” An empty nest hints at a change of residence.... Dream Explanations of Astro Center

FLYING

The dreamer’s basic ambition, drive, goals, and dreams.

If the dreamer is flying like a bird, then he can accomplish his goals almost on his own.

If the dreamer is flying in an airplane, or other sort of airship, he will need assistance.

If the weather around him is turbulent, the path to success will be rocky and strewn with obstacles.

If it is clear, the path ahead should be straightforward and easily traveled.

If others are flying with him, he needs to gather the support of others in order to attain his goal. Astrological parallel: Uranus Tarot parallel: The World

BIRDS

As far back as pagan times, man has been fascinated by birds and by flight. Birds were believed to be vehicles for the soul and to have the ability to carry the soul to heaven. BIRDS

Material aspects: Birds in dreams usually represent freedom, imagination, thoughts and ideas which, by their nature, need freedom to be able to become evident.

Dreaming of them in particular scenarios has the following meanings: a caged bird can indicate restraint or entrapment.

A bird flying freely represents aspirations and desires and possibly the spirit soaring towards the divine.

A display of plumage indicates our facade – the way we see ourselves and how we present ourselves to the outside world.

A flock of birds containing both winged and plucked birds indicates confusion over bodily or material considerations, as opposed to spiritual aspirations. Birds can sometimes denote the feminine, free side of the being.

The golden-winged bird has the same significance as fire and, therefore, indicates spiritual aspirations.

A high-flying bird indicates spiritual awareness or that part in us that seeks knowledge.... Dream Meanings of Versatile

HOUSE

(Or any place of residence) if we are aware that the house is not empty – that it is furnished in some way – those articles will mirror some aspect of our character or day-to-day concerns. Also consult the individual entry for furniture / furnishings. Being aware of someone else in the house suggests that we may be feeling threatened by an aspect of our own personality.

If there are different activities going on it indicates that there is a conflict between two parts of our personality, possibly the creative and the intellectual. Being especially aware of the front of the house portrays the facade we show to the outside world, whereas going into / out of the house indicates we need to decide whether to be more introverted or more extroverted in our dealings with other people.

An impressive, awe-inspiring house indicates that we are conscious of the self or the soul.

Dreaming of moving to a larger house shows there is need for a change in our lives, perhaps to achieve a more open way of life, or even for more space. Being outside a house depicts our more public side and how we relate to external interests.

Dreaming of a small house, or the house where we were born or grew up, means we are seeking security, or perhaps the safeguards of childhood, when we had little responsibility.

If we find the smallness of the house constricting, we feel we are being trapped by our responsibilities.

If we are aware of work being carried out on the house (cementing, repairing etc.) It implies that relationships may need to be worked on or repaired, or perhaps we need to look at health matters. We should take note of any damage, decay or difficulty that has occurred in our lives.... Dream Meanings of Versatile

BIRDS

Birds are complex symbols with many possible meanings.

As creatures that fly aloft with no attachment to the ground, they can represent freedom, either physical or psychological. Because they navigate in an unseen—and thus seemingly spiritual—medium, birds can have a variety of different religious meanings, as messengers of the divine (e.g., the Holy Spirit), as symbols of the soul, as heralds of spiritual aspiration (the desire to “soar aloft”), and so on. Blackbirds were traditionally thought of as omens of death, although they can also represent the shadow side of the self. Various other meanings are associated with particular kinds of birds (e.g., vultures). Also, birds in dreams sometimes allude to such metaphors as “bird-brained.”... BIRD

Birds, in general, mean success. Flying birds indicate a coming journey.

To have a bird land on your hand, arm, or head means an unexpected love is coming into your life.

To kill a bird, or find a dead bird, is an ill omen. Gypsies in different parts of England have different ideas about dreams concerning specific birds. Following are a few of those ideas:

Blackbird: A need for caution. Examine all business matters carefully.

Canary: Death of a friend.

A sudden departure.

A flying canary means temporary sickness.

Crow: You will be disappointed in an expectation and will have to make do with what you have.

Dove: Fidelity in love; happiness at home.

A flock of doves means an abundance of love and happiness. Two doves together mean reconciliation.

Eagle: A soaring eagle indicates great business success.

Falcon / Hawk: A soaring falcon or hawk, as with an eagle, means business success.

A swooping falcon or hawk means success in a legal matter.

To carry the bird on your arm and / or release it means to branch out, embracing new associates in your business or personal life.

Lark: A short vacation, with fun and relaxation.

Nightingale: To hear or see a nightingale is the forerunner of joyful news, great success in business, joy in love.

To hear a nightingale sing is to be assured of happiness.

Owl: You must give great thought to a coming problem, rather than making a snap decision.

If the owl flies away, you will find the problem is not as big as it seems.

To hear an owl hoot is to be warned of coming problems.

Parrot: Beware of slander. Don’t listen to gossip.

Peacock: To dream of a peacock is a sign of popularity, but beware of pride and vanity If it is a peacock which suddenly spreads its tail, beware of ostentation.

To hear a peacock scream means there is an approaching storm that will do you some damage. This could be a domestic or business “storm.”

Pigeon: To dream of a flying pigeon, according to Gypsies in Yorkshire, is to expect news in the form of a letter.

If you don’t see the pigeon land, it could be good or bad news.

If you see the bird land, then it is definitely good news.

Raven: A favorite bird of the Gypsies. Many dream books call this a bird of ill omen, but Romanis say that to dream of it signifies a family reunion with much happiness and joy to come.

If it is flying, the reunion will be unexpected; if at rest, it will be something you organize.

Swallow: Flying swallows mean happiness and good fortune. Nesting swallows mean close friendship.

Swan: You will have a happy and contented family life.

If there are young signets with the swan(s), then you will have children.

Vulture: Represents a bitter enemy.

To kill a vulture is to triumph over your enemy To see one devouring its prey is a warning about a lawsuit.... Gypsy Dream Dictionary

Ifone sees a big house within his own house in a dream, it means that a righteous woman will live their or move into that family to become a blessing for such a house. Ifthere is a tunnel under such a house in the dream, it denotes deception or that a perfidious person is having access to that household.

A house without lights in a dream represents a woman of evil character, and if a woman sees that house in her dream, then it represents a man of evil character. Demolishing one’s house in a dream means a fight within that family.

If one sees grass growing inside his house in a dream, it means a wedding.

FLYING

Overdramatization or fleeing from a problematic situation. Looking for clarification in difficult situations. Flying and Falling appear in Abyss, Elevator, and Trap, usually in nightmares; or as in: Brook, Leaf, and in part Parachute, during very pleasurable liberation dreams. In case of teenagers: often a sign that too much is being asked of them and that they are being pressured to succeed. These dreams are often like being intoxicated, having a sense of being elevated, and a lightness: like being in love. Many ancient myths show the connection between flying and sexuality, and while flying today has become a commonplace activity, the old interpretations are still true (see Fear of Flying by Erica Jong). Now modern symbolic interpretations of flying include the image of worldliness, expansive ideas, and communications. Flying is also seen as a symbol of creative ideas. This image may also be a warning not to become too aloof and removed from reality through fantasizing.

The dream may also be a challenge for either being too earthbound or taking flight into a greater dimension.

In Egypt, dreams of flying were interpreted as fleeing from difficulties. In ancient Greece and Rome, dreams of flying were seen as passionate love.

According to Freud, they were dreams of sexual desire and erection (Freud dealt with this extensively). He saw dreams of flying exclusively as desire for sex. Some modern dream experts interpret flying dreams exclusively as a desire to get away from problematic sit- uations, or to cross one’s own boundaries. Some researchers believe that in our dreams we go back to preborn states, make contact with the state of birds, and realize our innate ability to fly. Another contemporary dream researcher, Jack Maguire, believes that most dreams about flying are just a sign that we want to recuperate and refresh ourselves.... Little Giant Encyclopedia

A place of protection and security, the shelter of the soul. Individual rooms symbolize the different emotional functions.

It is important to determine if Door and Window are open or closed and what the condition of the house is.

The house is also a universal female sex symbol.

Compare this to C. J. Jung’s 1909 dream in which— while exploring a house—he finds a flight of stairs that leads to the basement, where he discovers bones and human skulls. This dream was important because it led to Jung’s idea of the collective unconscious: Attics and basements are places that hold what we repress; rooms in the upper part of a house provide perspective and vision; bedrooms indicate sexual content; the kitchen is the place where alchemy provides transformation; the bath is the place for cleansing; a workroom is the place for everyday situations.... FLYING

Flying dreams are often a very exhilarating and joyful experience. Flying dreams and our ability to control our flight is representative of your own personal sense of power.

If you dream that you have trouble staying in flight, you are feeling a lack of power in controlling your own circumstances.

If you run into power lines, trees, mountains and other obstructions you run into while in flight, they stand for a particular obstacle or person who is standing in your way in your waking life.

If you are feeling fear when you are flying or that you feel that you are flying too high, then it suggests that you are afraid of challenges and of success. Also see “Broom/Broomstick” and “Airplane.”... My Dream Interpretation

HOUSE

If you dream of visiting a house you used to live in, and the house is in good condition, it is a very good omen. You will soon hear some very good news and you will find love and joy in your present home.

If you dream of your own house (one you live in now, or one you used to live in) and it is in bad condition, this is an omen that someone close to you might be in ill health.

A dream about “your house” (but you never lived there in real life) symbolizes something you feel you are missing emotionally. Think about what happens or what objects you see in the house, to figure out what you’re missing.

To dream of building or buying a new house means you will make wise changes in your present life.

If you dream about living in or visiting somebody else’s house (whether or not you know the house owner), the meaning is linked to the condition of the home.

If it was an elegant house or mansion, this is a positive omen that you will someday leave your home for a better place and you will be lucky in life and finance.

If it was an old, falling down house, this suggests you are feeling tired, or a project or goal you’re currently working on won’t turn out the way you want.

An old house may also foretell a reunion or renewal of an old friendship or relationship.

A dream which featured a house being demolished - or being in an empty house - suggests you are grieving over a recent loss, broken relationship, or missed opportunity. Don’t despair, time really does heal all things.

If you dream of being kicked out of your house, something you are doing in real life goes against the values that you know are right.

A part of you feels uncomfortable with the way you have been acting.

If you dream that you cannot find your way home, you have lost faith and belief in yourself. This dream may also signify a major transition in your life.

To see your home in your dream, signifies security, basic needs, and values. You may finally be feeling settled and comfortable in a new environment.

To see a glass house in your dream, signifies that flattery is likely to hurt you.

To dream that you are living in a glass house, signifies the threatened loss of your reputation. Alternatively, it suggests that you are being watched. Also see “Mansion”... My Dream Interpretation

BIRDS

1- Birds in dreams usually represent freedom, imagination, thoughts and ideas which, by nature, need freedom to be able to become evident. As far back as Pagan times, man has been fascinated by birds and by flight. Birds were believed to be vehicles for the soul and to have the ability to carry the soul to heaven. As a result, birds were very often invested with magical and mystical powers.

2- Psychologically man often needs to project human qualities onto objects outside himself, and because birds’ conduct is entirely instinctive, they can be used in dreams to understand man’s behaviour.

3- Birds have come to represent the Soul both its dark and its enlightened side.

A caged bird can indicate restraint or entrapment.

A bird flying freely represents aspirations and desires and possibly the spirit soaring towards the Divine.

A display of plumage indicates the dreamer’s facade the way the individual sees him- or herself.

A flock of birds containing both winged and plucked birds indicates confusion over bodilv or material considerations as opposed to Spiritual aspirations. Birds can sometimes denote the feminine, free side of the being.

The golden-winged bird has the same significance as fire and therefore indicates spiritual aspirations.

A high-flying bird Spiritual awareness or that part in us which seeks knowledge. In a man’s dream, a bird can represent the Anima (see Introduction). In a woman’s dream, it suggests the Self, in the sense of the Spiritual Self (see Introduction).

White/Black birds The two aspects of the Anima or Self (see Introduction) may be represented as two opposites.

The black bird signifies the dark, neglected or shadowy side, the white the open, clear, free side.

A pet bird Personal circumstances and emotions can have a profound effect on our self- management, and remembered happiness can be experienced in dreams about pet birds. Chicken The imagination is being used to serve a practical function. There is potential for growth, though this may also come about through belonging to a group.

The chicken can also represent stupidity and cowardice. Cock The cock is the symbol of a new day and of vigilance or watchfulness. It represents the masculine principle and thus the need to be more upfront and courageous.

Crow Dreaming of a crow can have two meanings. Traditionally the crow warns of death but may also represent wisdom and deviousness.

Cuckoo The meaning of the cuckoo is ambivalent, since it can represent deviousness or unrequited love. As the herald of spring it indicates a change from old, stale energy to newness and freshness.

Dove The Anima (see Introduction).

The bringer of calm after the storm, the Soul, the peaceful side of man’s nature appears in dreams as the dove.

Duck In a dream this can often denote some kind of superficiality or childishness.

Eagle Because the eagle is known to be a bird of prey; in dreams it signifies domination and supremacy. It can equally also mean perccptiveness and awareness as well as farsightedness and objectivity.

If the dreamer identifies with the eagle, his own wish to dominate is becoming apparent though there may be some difficulty in reconciling other parts of the dreamer’s nature.

If the dreamer feels threatened, somebody else may be threatening the status quo.

Falcon The falcon shares the symbolism of the eagle. As a bird of prey, it typifies freedom and hope for those who are being restricted in any way. It can represent victory over lust. Goose/Geese The goose is said to represent watchfulness and love. Like the swan it can represent the dawn or new life.

A flock of geese is often taken to represent the powers of intuition and to give warning of disaster. Wild goose The wild goose can represent the soul and often dcpicts the Pagan side of our nature. Geese, in common with cats, are considered to be witches’ familiars. Hen The hen denotes providence, maternal care and procreation. When a hen crows in a dream it is taken to represent feminine domination.

Ibis The ibis, sometimes taken to be the stork, is the symbol of perseverance and of aspiration. Jackdaw - see Magpie. Kingfisher To dream of a king- lishcr is to dream of dignity and calmness.

Lark A lark is traditionally supposed to represent the transcendence of the mundane. Magpie/Jackdaw Because of the belief that magpies and jackdaws are thieves, to dream of one may indicate that an associate is attempting to take away something that the dreamer values. Also the magpie can signify good news. Ostrich The ostrich denotes that one is attempting to run away from responsibility. Owl The owl is sacrcd to Athena, goddess of strategy and wisdom, therefore in a dream the owl can describe those qualities. Because it is also associated with the night-time, it can sometimes represent death.

Peacock To see a peacock in a dream indicates a growth of understanding from the plain and unadorned to the beauty of the fully plumed bird. Like the phoenix, it represents rebirth and resurrection.

Pelican There are two meanings to the symbolism of the pelican. One is sacrifice and devotion and the other is careful and maternal love.

Penguin The penguin is thought to represent adaptability but also possibly stupidity. Pheasant To dream of pheasants generally foretells prosperity and good fortune to come. Phoenix The phoenix is a universal symbol of rebirth, resurrection and immortality (dying in order to live). Quail The quail represents amorousness, sometimes courage and often good luck. In its negative form it can also represent witchcraft and sorcery.

Raven The raven can be a symbol of sin, but if it is seen to be talking it often represents prophecy. Its meaning can be ambivalent since it can represent evil, but also wisdom. Seagull flic seagull is a symbol of freedom and power. Sparrow “flic sparrow represents business and industrv.

Stork

The stork is a symbol of new life and new beginnings.

Swallow

The swallow seen in a dream represents hope and the coming of Spring. Swan The swan is the soul of man and is often taken to be the divine bird. It can sometimes denote a peaceful death. Turkey The turkey is traditionally a food for celebrations and festivals.

To dream of it can therefore denote that there may be good times ahead. Vulture/Buzzard The vulture is a scavenger and therefore has an association with the feminine aspect in its destructive persona. Woodpecker The woodpcckcr is a guardian of both kings and trees in mythology.

It is also reputed to have magical powers.... Ten Thousand Dream Dictionary

1- A house nearly always refers to the soul, and they way that we build our lives.

The different rooms and parts of houses in dreams indicate the various aspects of our personality and experience.

For example, Attic Dreaming of being in an attic is to do with past experiences and old memories. Interestingly, it can also highlight family patterns of behaviour and attitudes which have been handed down. Basement/cellar The cellar most often represents the subconscious and those things we may have suppressed through an inability to handle them.

A basement can also highlight the power that is available to us provided we are willing to make use of it. We may not have come to terms with our own sexuality and prefer to keep it hidden. Bathroom In dreams our attitude to personal cleanliness and our most private thoughts and actions can be shown as the bathroom or toilet. Bedroom The bedroom portrays a place of safety where we can relax and be as sensual as we wish. Chimney As a passage from one state to another and a conductor of heat, in dreams the chimney can indicate how we deal with our inner emotions and warmth. Hall The hallway in a dream is illustrative of how we meet and relate to other people. Library Our minds, and how we store the information we receive, can appear as a library.

PUBLIC HOUSE

1- To be in a pub in a dream and aware of our behaviour indicates how we relate to groups and what our feelings are about society. We may feel that it is appropriate to use a public space to create new relationships, or to come to terms with our own sense of loneliness.

A public space where we can drop inhibitions has links with the Pagan need for festivity and celebration.

2- We all have social needs that can be met in convivial company, in a pub or bar.

The origins of the public house were the old inns, which were stopping-olf places for travellers. Any companionship was purely transitory. This symbolism is still present today in dreams. We arc in a place where we can rest and relax and nothing more is expected of us.

3- As a public place where shared values arc important, the public house can be a creative space. As a meeting place where few judgements arc made, it becomes a placc in which people can co-exist.... Ten Thousand Dream Dictionary

BIRD

With the ability to fly, birds have always referred to freedom and spirituality. The flight across the boundless sky means that some aspect of your psyche provides fullness, restoration, and balance.

It is the soul’s desire to go beyond, to surpass. It may also symbolize that you want to get rid of everything you find banal. The unconscious may be providing solutions for your existence.

If you dream of releasing a bird, the same will apply to your emotions. On the other hand, birds indicate the status of your relationships. The thieves, like magpies, denote adultery or any other threat. Territorial ones, like blackbirds, can express envy. Finally, a flock of birds represents your desire to be part of a group that you admire. (See WINGS)

For centuries, dreaming of birds has been a positive omen. Albatrosses bring fortune; vultures warn against gossip; crowing roosters announce good news; pigeons signify a peaceful solution to your problems; an eagle predicts success in business; geese express that you will have improvements soon; hawks portend a bright future; owls prevent some disappointments; storks predict problems in the family; and turkeys, finally, are bearers of bad luck, unless you kill them or eat them in the dream.... BIRDS

Birds are a symbol of spirituality since the time of ancient Egypt, not only in the West. The Hindu tradition also says that birds represent higher states of being. In oneiric terms, we can say that in general, dreaming of birds reveals the desire for freedom. Each bird, however, has its own symbolism. The eagle, for example, is associated with the ambitions of conquest and power. On the other hand, if you dream of a flock of birds flying high in the sky, it means that, quite possibly, you will achieve your goals.

The dream itself advises you to focus on the goals you set, because you may be taking on too many things at once.

If the bird is caged, you must ask yourself if this is how you feel in real life. Perhaps the bird is the dreamer himself and it reflects their desire for freedom and independence. According to the Freudian school, he who dreams of birds is the victim of unsatisfied erotic desires. Jung, however, links it to the soul. The bird represents thoughts and ideas that fly freely. (See BIRD and WINGS)

FLYING

Imagining that you are flying signals the arrival of change that will be very beneficial for you. The action of flying, however, implies the desire to evolve, to connect with the essence of yourself to progress spiritually. Further, it denotes that you have undone something that was worrying you.

It is a dream from which you leave with optimism and renewed strength, with a stimulating sensation of liberty. It also indicated the need to discover, to invent, and to do new things. This type of image foretells success, the completion of objections and overcoming difficulties, and encourages the dreamer to action (it is the time to fly by one’s self). However, you should not forget the Greek myth from Icarus; he who tried to go too high, his ambition brought him to a fatal destination. Further, if the protagonist is a young woman, it announces the break from relations in her couple.

In antiquity, if a person dreamt of flying, it was considered that he had entered into the sphere of the immortal gods. The Native Americans, the Babylonians, the Hindus, the Tibetan Buddhists, and many other peoples believed that the world had the ability to abandon the physical body during sleep. During these astral voyages, the psychic body could fly to other dimensions, communicate with people of a certain spiritual belief or learn of the souls that once were angels and divinities. Some scientists believe that these voyages are factual and that there exists the possibility to verify them empirically.

Montse dreamed: “I discovered with astonishment that I could fly. I just had to move three steps ahead and push myself a little forward; I didn’t even have to swing my arms. The wind marked my direction and I was able to feel the incredible sensation, I felt happy, free, powerful... Around me there were no birds, nor sounds; I was on my own in the immensity of the blue sky, flying over a sea in calm blue, yet brighter. Suddenly, I saw a group of dolphins jumping joyfully over silver waves. I awoke smiling, with a very pleasant sensation.”

Dreaming that you are flying is associated with liberty, the desire to elevate yourself from the earthly bindings and conquer the heaviness of reality.

It is a dream of evolution, which reveals you need to freely express yourself, to create... Montse, by profession a designer, had this dream a few days before completing a design for an important magazine, very artistic and vanguardist, renowned with many awards... A few days before she had felt very pressured and tired; however, her dream calmed her and revealed her creative capacity and her strength of expression. Dolphins are a symbol of intelligence that s related to clarity and purity of thought. The face that there were jumping through the water (entering and leaving) indicated the level of connection Montse had established between her conscious and subconscious.

Dreams of flights also match an interest in spiritual evolution. Curiously, through this period, Montse had given some tries in this direction, with courses on growth and personal overcoming, in which she learned much about herself.... The Big Dictionary of Dreams

It represents the dreamer’s basic ambition, but the in- terpretation of flying (like a bird) is modified by the details of the flight and its conditions, so the sur- roundings, weather, etc., must be correlated with the action, but as a gen- eral guide:

If you successfully maintained your flight at a low to medium height, you can expect to achieve your goal without much difficulty.

If you were trying (or straining) to reach a high altitude, the dream is telling you that your grasp is greater than your reach and you would be wise to alter your course.

FLYING

Dreams of flying are very common and vary from dreamer to dream. Most typically dreamers don’t go on long, high flights; instead they hover about a hundred or so yards from the ground. The most simple explanation of these kind of dreams was put forward by English physician Havelock Ellis in his book The World of Dreams, in which he suggests that it is our breathing whilst asleep that suggests the idea of flying (and falling) to the unconscious mind. Freud suggested that dreams of flying were nothing else but the desire for sexual freedom, and the idea that dreams of flying are associated with sex is shared by some other dream researchers. However, as with all dreams, there can be many interpretations.

Flying dreams and the ability to control your flight can be representative of your own personal sense of power.

If you are flying with ease, and enjoying the scene and landscape below, then it suggests that you are on top of a situation.

You have risen above something. It may also mean that you have gained a different perspective on things. Having difficulties staying in flight indicates a lack of power in controlling your own circumstances. You may be struggling to stay aloft, and stay on course. Things like birds, trees or telephone poles may further obstruct your flight. These obstructions represent a particular obstacle or person standing in your way in your waking life. You need to identify who, or what, is preventing you from moving forward.

If you are feeling fear when you are flying or feel that you are flying too high, then it suggests that you are afraid of challenges and of success. Are you trying to rise above something in waking life? Are you developing an idea? Are you flying in the face of fortune? Flying into a rage? Flying off the handle? Flying high?... BIRDS

What sets birds apart is their ability to fly and escape the boundaries and limitations of earth.

For this reason, they are a universal symbol of transformation and the progress towards wholeness and harmony. Their association with the element of air— itself associated with aspirations and ideals—means they have also become a symbol of high-flying ambition and the quest for enlightenment. In Greek mythology, birds are often messengers of the gods, so in psychological terms they show that the unconscious is offering you wisdom and insight. Birds can take a bird’s-eye view of the world and are therefore associated with the ability to take an objective overview of a situation.

Birds can also symbolize relationships with other people. For example, thieving birds, such as magpies, may suggest a threat to a relationship and the possibility of an affair; territorial birds, such as blackbirds, might suggest jealousy. Baby birds of all species can symbolize relationships with children or dependents. Freud believed that birds were sexual symbols that represent the penis, whereas Jung believed that birds in dreams were messengers from the unconscious, offering insight and wisdom. Some people call women ‘birds’, and birds in dreams can sometimes denote the feminine principle or the anima in a man’s dream.

Birds in dreams therefore represent freedom, transformation, insight, objectivity, relationships, intuition and the ability to see the bigger picture.

If you see a bird alight, appear or take flight in your dream, ask yourself if you are wishing you could escape from pressures and responsibilities. Do you want to be free from a situation and alight at pastures new? Do you want freedom from a particular relationship or an outstanding debt? Or is it an attitude or situation you want to rise above? Do you long to travel or take flight? Alternatively was your unconscious referring to a ‘flight of fancy’, something you were hoping and wishing for in waking life? Or do you need to see the bigger picture and leave the details behind? And finally, because your unconscious conjures up bird images to reflect certain attitudes or situations in life, you also need to consider the symbolism associated with the following bird situations and different types of birds. At all times, the condition or health of the bird is important.

If the bird is suffering in any way, this will suggest a certain degree of frustration.

If the bird is flying or is in good condition, feelings of freedom and liberation may be indicated.

For centuries it was considered a good omen to dream of birds, but bear in mind that there are also many negative superstitions about birds. Here are some well-known ones that might influence your dream interpretation and your feelings towards a particular bird, or birds in general: albatross, sign of bad luck; black crow, sign of misfortune; buzzard, beware of gossip; cock, if it crows good news; dove, peace; eagle, success in business; goose, improvement in fortune; hawk, a bright future; magpie, a change of plan; owl, disappointment; stork, family problems; and turkey, bad luck, unless you are eating or killing it.... If you dream of birds leaving the nest, it might suggest that you are taking on new responsibilities in waking life or are the parent of a child who is about to leave home. If the bird wouldn’t or couldn’t fly away, are you putting limitations on yourself? If the bird’s wings were clipped, is someone deliberately holding you back? Freeing a bird from its cage relates to expressing your emotions.

In your waking life, an ideal or hope may have died, or your creativity has been stifled. Wounded, molting or songless birds can also represent problems that are constantly on your mind.... BLACKBIRD

Ancient dream oracles suggest that to see a blackbird in your dream is a bad omen, bringing about misfortune for you in the coming weeks. It is a good sign, however, if the blackbird is flying. Modern dream researchers suggest that anxiety is expressed by the presence of black birds, or a blackbird in particular, in dreams.

If the blackbird is attacking someone or something in the dream, it is a comment on how you may be relating to your emotions in waking life.... The Element Encyclopedia

FLYING

Dreams about flying are common to late childhood and early adolescence. The dreams vary: some dream of jumping or falling from a great height, others run and jump into flight, whereas others jump from a great height and discover that they can fly. Dream researchers believe that dreams about flight can reflect the drive within each of us to be free to express, explore and experience life, so it makes sense that we dream most often about flying during a stage in life when we are becoming aware of abilities that will take us places later in life.... HOUSE

For the psychologist Carl Jung, building a house was a symbol of building a self. In his autobiographical Memories, Dreams and Reflections, Jung described the gradual evolution of his home on Lake Zurich. Jung spent more than thirty years building this castle-like structure, and he believed that the towers and annexes represented his psyche. In dreams therefore, houses may represent your life structures or what you have created for yourself as a way of life; for example, values, attitudes and goals, or things you feel ‘at home’ with, or feel you can be yourself with.

When interpreting dreams of houses, how you feel about the house is of particular importance. Houses can be forbidding places, and if you feel anxious in your dream, this suggests that something about your personality is bothering you. That you noted a particular part of the house in your dream may offer a clue, and the different rooms and everyday things in the house are also important as they represent different aspects of your feelings and make up. It is common to dream of returning to a house from your past that you knew or lived in. This dream may be nostalgic or it may reflect a longing to return to the innocence of childhood.

If you dreamed of leaving a house, the message is that you are ready to move on in waking life.

If the house in your dream felt like it was your home, see also HOME.... The Element Encyclopedia

DREAM HOUSES

The front of the house and activities outside the house represent your persona, the face you show to the world, whereas whatever is inside the house reveals your inner life.

If the house is being attacked or burgled, this suggests criticism or social pressure from others.

If the house is burning or falling down, this represents leaving old attitudes behind.

If the house feels cramped and dark, there is a feeling of restriction in waking life, whilst structural faults suggest broken relationships or illness.

If work or repairs are being carried out on the house, perhaps certain relationships are breaking down or health matters need to be attended to.

An impressive big house in dreams suggests that we are conscious of our potential.

If the house is small, the dreamer is perhaps seeking security and freedom from responsibility.

If you were living in a bungalow in your dream, there may be a suggestion that you are living too much on one level, both practically and emotionally.

If there are unfamiliar rooms in a well-known house, this represents unexplored potential.

If other people are in the house, they suggest different aspects of yourself you may feel threatened by, or other people you are involved with, or about to be involved with, in waking life. Going into or out of the house suggests that we may need to decide whether we need to be more introverted or extroverted.

If you go into another person’s house, this suggests that you are getting involved with that person, perhaps being a part of their life.

If you see a loved one move into someone else’s house in your dream, this may be your fear of their infidelity, but it may also reveal a growing distance in your relationship. Planning or altering a house, or building an annexe may refer to a change in your lifestyle or approach to life.

Rows of houses represent other people. According to dream lore, country houses suggest tranquility; building a house, a growth in confidence; a new house, a busy social life; an empty house or moving house, financial worries; a big house, good fortune, and a small house, misfortune.

If you are buying a house in your dreams this may relate to making a decision to change in waking life, or wanting to make some kind of change. Buying a house involves decision making and this points to the importance of clarifying what it is that you want in waking life.

If the house in your dream is an igloo, this is a symbol of security and completeness and, because it is warm on the inside and cold on the outside, it points to differences between what you feel on the inside and you do and say on the outside. In general dreaming about a flat or apartment has the same meaning as dreaming about a house, but the interpretation depends on whether or not you have lived in an apartment or flat before.

If you did, were you living alone in the flat or did you share, and what was this like? This will influence the feelings associated with the image in your dream.... The Element Encyclopedia

LIGHTHOUSE

A lighthouse may appear in a dream as a beacon guiding you to safety through dense fog. Bear in mind that a beacon or lighthouse can also indicate a rocky area you should avoid, and therefore contains a warning about the direction in which you are heading. HOUSEHOLD ITEMS

Dreams that feature brooms are considered to be a sign of good fortune, suggesting that you are making a clean sweep in your waking life. The dream may be urging you to sweep out something from your past, so pay attention to what you are sweeping up.

If the broom is damaged, you may be suffering from low self-esteem or feelings of insecurity.

If the broom is being used outside, are you taking too much interest in the outside world and neglecting what is really important to you?

Dreams of scissors can be related to decisiveness and cutting out unwanted emotional aspects of the dreamer’s life.

If the scissors are unused, this can express a desire to begin a new relationship or make an existing one stronger.

Dream scissors may also suggest that you are dividing your attention among too many people.

If you are cutting with scissors, you are in the process of making an important decision. Another interpretation for scissors is that they are a symbol of sexuality, either male or female, depending on whether they are open or closed. A knot in a dream symbolizes the various ties in your life and relationships with others.

If you carefully untie a knot in your dream, this suggests a readiness to deal with a problem, rather than ignoring it by impatiently cutting the knot in two. The knot also has sexual symbolism, representing a couple’s personal and sexual union.

Dream envelopes suggest messages to or from the dreamer.

If the envelope is open, this signifies daily problems that can be tackled but if the envelope is closed, it may be harder to solve the problems.

If the envelope is bulging, you may be feeling that your life is overburdened with worries and emotional expectations from those around you. A ladder in your dream may relate to work in your home, such as painting, but if you cannot make a practical connection, try and think of the purpose of the dream ladder. How is it being used? Like elevators and stairs, ladders in dreams relate to your progress or lack of it. See also HOME.... The Element Encyclopedia

HOUSE

To be living in a house in your dream, even one that isn’t at all like your home, also represents yourself. Jung once called the house the‘mansion of the soul’, and most dream analysts believe that houses in dreams become holistic symbols of yourself; your mind, body, spirit and your past, present and future.

If you were buying or building a house in your dream, perhaps you are considering making a dramatic change to your life, even to the extent of rebuilding it.

If your dreams focus on paying the rent or the mortgage and this isn’t a problem in waking life, then they are highlighting a responsibility in waking life that you find a burden. An abandoned house in disrepair may suggest emotional and physical neglect, whilst a house that is shuttered up might suggest being blind to what is going on around you. Dreams of an unfinished house should motivate rather than be a cause of despair, as life is a constant work-in-progress. A half-built house suggests what you need to acquire to further your personal development; perhaps more windows to give you a better perspective. A damaged blind or broken lock in your dream can highlight lack of privacy or your perceived vulnerability. A house in bad repair can denote the need to heal a family rift.

Even the most bizarre dream homes reflect the psychological territory you are living in right now, even if that‘home’ is a medieval dungeon, a tropical island, a prisoner-of-war camp or a train station.

If you dreamed of living in a bizarre or fictional setting, consider the condition and qualities of that situation. Is it cramped, crowded or lonely? Your new dream home can give you valuable information about how your current circumstances are affecting you and how you relate to others.

If you are restricted or limited in your dream territory, ask yourself if you are creating those restrictions by your reaction or if the situation is creating it. To see an old, run-down house in your dream represents your old beliefs, attitudes and how you used to think or feel. A situation in your current life may be bringing about those same old attitudes and feelings. Alternatively, the old house may symbolize your need to update your mode of thinking.

If your dream house is unfurnished, this may suggest a bleak self, devoid of feeling; an empty house, however, may indicate new opportunities.

To dream of a haunted house signifies unfinished emotional business, related to your childhood family, dead relatives, or repressed memories and feelings. To see a glass house in your dream signifies that appearances in waking life may be deceptive. To dream that you are living in a glass house signifies the threatened loss of your reputation. To see a mansion in your dream suggests that you need to grow in some way or other; if servants are waiting on you, this indicates undue vanity. You may feel that your current situation or relationship is in a rut and want to expand and develop your potential.

If you see yourself living in a cottage, this signifies a longing for a gentler more spontaneous way of life.

An ancient house could refer to a previous life in some way connected with your present existence.

If you are living in a tent or mobile caravan in your dream, do you feel weighed down by the routine of your life? Would you like to travel, move house, get back to nature or try the life of a nomad for a while? If you imagine your house is in amongst skyscrapers in the city, this suggests a preoccupation with financial matters, perhaps at the expense of your personal life. The opposite is true if your house is in a village in your dream.

Whether your dream home is an igloo or a mansion, pay attention to the details of the dream as it will be like a documentary featuring the interaction of your past beliefs, current challenges and recent situations.

If you don’t like what you see, it is important to understand that you are in charge of your life; sometimes making small changes may be all that is needed to bring big results. Ancient dream-lore has many interpretations for dreams about houses and homes but here are the most typical: country house, tranquility ahead; building a house, you will be self-confident; new house, a busy social life; empty house, low income; moving house, worries about money.... HOME IMPROVEMENT / HOUSEWORK

If your dream hasn’t been triggered by a television home makeover show, making improvements to your home may symbolize making improvements to yourself. Are there any jobs that you feel need to be done right now? Could you do with a coat of paint to brighten yourself up with a fresh new color? If you dream of building an extension, do you want or need to expand your horizons? Putting on a new roof may relate to raising your expectations, whilst applying a coat of varnish or paint can suggest a desire to disguise your own self-perceived flaws. It can also indicate the desire to gloss over problems in a relationship.

Whitewash may represent your attempts to cover up something that causes you embarrassment, whether relating to your own feelings of guilt or your suspicion that others are not what they seem. Clearing or laying down new paths or foundations may relate to new approaches to life.

If household breakages feature in your dream this may represent flawed ideas. A cracked cup can symbolize lost love. A dream of breaking things in the house may suggest anger or despair.

Dreams of housework in general suggest keeping your internal house in order, perhaps by taking time to clarify or define motives, opinions and feelings about others; they also stand for the cleaning out of non-functional or negative attitudes, thoughts and experiences. To dream that you are cleaning your house with a broom or dustpan and brush signifies your need to clear out your thoughts and get rid of old ways. You are seeking self-improvement.

If you, or a cleaner, are cleaning, this may also recall memories of your mother. Alternatively, the house being cleaned may symbolize the self and a need to give extra care and attention to neglected aspects of your personality.

When compared with sweeping up, vacuum cleaning suggests both a definite desire to do away once and for all with the effects of a past action, and a definite desire to move on and put the past behind you.

To dream of cleaning windows suggests that you are trying to get a clearer view of the world around you. Using a washing machine may suggest it is time to confront old issues that are destroying your peace of mind. The water may also point to deep-seated childhood issues that need to come out in the wash. Hanging your clothes out to dry may suggest a yearning for the lost innocence of childhood or a desire for uninhibited sexuality.

If you are washing the dishes in your dream kitchen, this may suggest a desire to wash away feelings of shame or disgust, or a wish to deny responsibility for something.... The Element Encyclopedia

BIRD

Freud thought that the bird represented the phallus and that flying represented the sexual act. Although in many countries the word ‘bird’ means a girl or woman, in Italy it means the male organ. In ancient myths, birds denote freedom, spiritual knowledge or wisdom gained from experience, but many dream analysts believe dream birds represent your imagination and the aspect of your mind that can travel far and wide, even if this is only in dreams.

When a pet bird appears in your dream, there are plenty of ways to interpret its visit.

If the bird is chirping or flying, then it may symbolize feelings of happiness, love, joy or harmony. Sometimes it means that a weight will soon be lifted off your shoulders or that you will experience spiritual freedom in the near future. On the other hand, if the bird is starving, injured or dying, this may symbolize feelings of restriction and loneliness in waking life.

If, in your dream, the pet bird is caged or you are trying to put the bird in the cage, this represents feelings of being restricted in some way, being trapped in a relationship or holding back love or affection; if there are good feelings about the caged bird, this may suggest a need to withhold or withdraw love or freedom.

If you set a bird free or a bird escapes in your dreams, this indicates feelings of spiritual, emotional or physical freedom.

Pay attention to the species of pet bird in your dream too, as this may hold a clue to the interpretation. For example, cockatiels, lovebirds, Senegals, red bellies, African grays and pionus parrots generally have a reputation for being quiet birds and their appearance in dreams may suggest a period or introspection and reflection. Cockatoos, on the other hand, have one of the worst reputations for screaming, largely because they require quite a bit of attention and amusement or they clamor for it loudly. Is there an aspect of your personality that is screaming out for more attention? Parrots are born copycats, so is your dreaming mind urging you to be more original or to follow someone else’s example? In dreams, such birds suggest that you are repeating without judgment what others have told you. Are you accepting or copying someone or something in your life without a proper process of evaluation? Alternatively, dream parrots may also symbolize verbosity or the need to express yourself in some way.

Parakeets or budgies can represent a lack of analytical thought or spiritual thinking, whilst finches are a sign of emotional maturity or the need for it. Dreaming of canaries suggests singing and may therefore refer to a joyful emotion. On the other hand, it may reflect your anxieties about being the focus of gossip.

To dream of doves reflects a peaceful nature or condition. The dove is not a pet that often features in dreams, in fact it rarely appears in the dreaming panorama at all, being quite different from pets like cats, dogs and horses that rouse strong emotions. Therefore, if a dove does appear in your dreams, your dreaming mind has conjured up a rare symbol to send you a rare message. In mythology, the dove is the bird with the sweet song that accompanies Venus; it is the symbol of a sweet creature, of a delicate strength. In dreams, pet doves that stay with you not because they have to but because they want to are symbols of a sentiment of deep tenderness, of the sharing of a magic moment that involves the lovers, their soul and their bodies. The dove holds in itself the sweetness of love and the elevation of the spirit, the above and the below, earth and sky. Similar in some ways to the dove is the lovebird; this bird is a symbol of companionship or an appreciation of other people in your life.

Bear in mind too that pet birds are messy creatures; the amount of cleaning they require is the biggest complaint heard from bird owners who are having second thoughts about their pets.

If you are cleaning up the cage of a pet bird in your dream, this may suggest that you have perhaps taken on more responsibility than you can manage in the care of someone else or in some aspect of your life.... The Element Encyclopedia

BIRDS

Freudians regard this as an erotic dream. Oneiro- critics give it a varied meaning according to the nature of the birds. Many small birds signify lawsuits; to catch birds with lime denotes unfair triumph over enemies; singing birds foretell joy and delight; to the poor a dream of birds implies many friends; to the rich it forecasts flight of fortune.

The dream of Uta, mother of Kremhild, who married Attila, the Hun, and sent for her kinsmen to avenge Siegfried’s death, is symbolic. “Stay here, good heroes,” she warns her children; “last night I dreamed an evil dream, that all the birds in the land were dead.” The treachery of the Huns justified the evil omen. BIRDS

(see by type, Nest, Flying, Wings)

A type of flying dream, especially if you have sprouted wings.

If the bird is carrying something to you, or away from you, what it bears is significant to meaning.

For example, a bird carrying an olive branch would traditionally symbolize forgiveness and peace.

If the birds are scavengers preying on something (see Buzzard, Carcass), this indicates that you, or someone you know, have taken unfair advantage of a situation. Alternatively, if the birds are picking relentlessly, this may reveal inner trauma over teasing from those in your peer group.

According to Edgar Cayce, transcendental joy and beauty, especially if a bluebird. Parakeets equate to relationships on the same level. However, if the bird is confined, this is another type of cage dream that can reveal an inability to freely verbalize your thoughts, or a relationship in which you feel confined.

Love birds in a cage reveal a love that isn’t totally mature or trusting, so it resorts to manipulation to keep the two parties together.

A bird singing sweetly reveals pleasure, honor, and success. Alternatively, it can indicate someone who always has something nice to say.

The ancient Egyptians called the astral body the ba, and in Germany the astral figure was sometimes likened to a doppelganger. No

matter the name, the purpose of such travel is to edify and educate the spirit, or potentially aid someone that you could not reach by normal means (see Bed).

With wings: If you have the wings of a bird when flying, check mythical or folkloric information on that bird for possible clues to your dream’s meaning.
